    Honda expands recall

437,000 more vehicles join 15-month-old global action to replace problem air bags

TOKYO: Honda is adding 437,000 vehicles to its 15-month-old global recall for faulty air bags in the latest quality problem to hit a Japanese automaker.

The company will replace the driver's side air bag inflator in the cars because they can deploy with too much pressure, causing the inflator to rupture and injure or kill the driver.

Japan's No. 2 automaker originally announced the recall to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in November 2008, and the total number of vehicles recalled since then is approaching 1 million.

The latest expansion of the air-bag recall includes 378,000 cars in the U.S., some 41,000 cars in Canada and 17,000 cars in Japan, Australia and elsewhere in Asia. The North American recall was announced Tuesday and followed Wednesday by the recall in Asia.

The recall now affects 952,118 vehicles, including certain 2001 and 2002 Accord sedans, Civic compacts, Odyssey minivans, CR-V small sport utility vehicles and some 2002 Acura TL sedans.

Honda has assembly plant operations in Ohio.

Honda said it is aware of 12 incidents linked to the problem — one death in May 2009 and 11 injuries. The company said it is not aware of any problems happening after July 2009.

Honda decided to expand the recall after a company investigation found that more cars might contain defective air-bag inflators, made by supplier Takata Corp., based in Tokyo.

The problem, the company found, could be traced to a stamping machine that sometimes used insufficient pressure to make the inflators. Honda decided to recall all vehicles using the compressed inflator propellant produced by that machine, it said in a release.

The automaker's original announcement to NHTSA in November 2008 involved fewer than 4,000 2001 Accords and Civics. The recall was expanded in July of 2009 to 440,000 vehicles including the 2001 and 2002 Accord and Civic, as well as certain 2002 Acura TL sedans.

Honda says owners should take their vehicles to dealerships as soon as they are notified by the company in writing. Notification will begin during the month of February.

Last month Honda recalled 646,000 Fit hatchbacks worldwide because of a glitch that could cause water to enter the power window mechanism, causing components to overheat.

The Fit recall affects 2007-2008 models. The Fit is sold in other countries as the Jazz and City.

The recall affects Asia, Latin America, Europe, South Africa and North America. About 140,000 vehicles are affected in the U.S.

So dapat bang i patronize ito...(Siguro)...Honda nga kase eh!

IMO... It's my money to spent so i rather think twice buying this brand and at the end of the day i will get a poor service, costly spare parts and recall issue...

Honda vehicles in the Philippines NOT included in SRS Airbag Recall
February 10, 2010 - On February 09, 2010(Local time), American Honda Motor Co., Inc. and on February 10, 2010 (Local time), Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced expansion of recall related to a defect in the driver’s SRS airbag installed on certain vehicles produced in 2001 and 2002.
Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. officially announces that the local market has no reason to worry since ALL models sold in the Philippines are not affected by the recall. Parts used for the locally sold Honda models are DIFFERENT from those included in the recall.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    Eto ang mas malupet...

"Parts used for the locally sold Honda models are DIFFERENT from those included in the recall."

So ang ibig sabihin pala eh mas maganda yong parts na nilagay sa 'For Philippines" rather than sa "For US or Europe" ? Eh di ba pag For Philippines eh bawas ang features?

Sobrang hi-tech, kaya nawiwindang ang design/computer.
Sa atin, mahilig tayong mag bypass ng kung ano ano sa makina natin, kaya tuloy simple lang ang design kung For Philippines.

Check the same unit from other countries and you will find the difference in features...not just the computer / engine since this is basic to the specific brand....

Do we have here a honda model with Sun roof? or auto seat reclining sa standard model? How about the satelite radio? This feature only offer to other countries as standard equivalent to it's class...then compare the price?

F.O.B charges! sino ba ang mas malayo sa Japan...Philippines ba o USA or Europe but if you compare the price, ang lake ng difference...

Dagdag na dyan yong wlang discount at promo plus mabagal na service!

I just spoke to an SA at Honda and she told me that it's not their practice to give a discount.

Kung wala lang recall/accelerator issue ang Toyota I would have never considered buying a Honda.
