checked it out in a Honda dealer last thursday... MAGANDA NGA!!! definitely upscale, not quite a car that you'll be embarassed to be seen in if that's important to you... looks and feels more expensive that it actually is.

the interior is great, quite spacious and with great utility because of the 'smart' folding rear seats. the only weak point, i think, is the mediocre power of the engine (fancy sounding i-DSI notwithstanding).

on the whole, the car easily trumps the larger civic as far as interior and styling are concerned, imo...

I agree! It makes the Civic pale in comparison in terms of styling modernity. It looks good, but only up until the point where you begin see it anywhere and everywhere. Pag lahat ng tao naka City na.... parang korny na.

The Civic SHOULD be equipped with a CVT tranny like the City's, for people to justify buying one over this. True, tallboy look nga, but hey, its an economy car diba? And the biggest sellnig point? 15 KM/L BABY!!!! That's the MINIMUM fuel Consumption! HANEF!!!!!

Too angular... Saka baka mahal din kasi TBA pa yung price dahil hindi pa nagkakasundo sa taxes...

15km/l? Parang mahirap ata... Pero kung totoo, hanef!

i'll believe 15 km/L in manila traffic when i see it... hehe... sounds like another useless throwaway marketing number at this time, though

as for pricing, the top-range model (with CVT and the nifty interior seats) is around 570K right now, i think... under the new tax law, the price of the same model will reportedly drop to 500K... a rather impressive deal, imo.

    hi mbt,

kung mostly metro manila driving, big issue ba yung mediocre power? or mararamdaman ko lang kung out of town trips?

yung hi-end daw ng honda city, with ABS, air bags etc (without the effect of the proposed tax law) might reach the P600++ range. compare this with the ford lynx gsi m/t for example, na 1.6 (pero no ABS, no airbags although power na lahat) but which costs just P660k. is it still a good deal?

or is it a good deal only in the 1.3 market (vis-a-vis the corolla, jimny, sentra and the counterpart lynx gsi)?

mga peeps, may napansin akong discrepancy.

I looked around sa honda malaysia and thailand websites. honda city 1.5 i-DSI 88hp daw ang power output. e sabi ng inquirer at honda sources yung 1.3 daw na locally released is 88hp. pano kaya nangyari 'to (lower torque kaya)? kung hindi man ito totoo, ibig sabihin the 1.3 will have even less horses. mukang sobrang bagal ata nitong city. imo, ano pang use ng large storage space if you don't have the power to fill it up and haul some heavy stuff.

i just came from the showroom. sobrang laki ng boot space. talo pa ata ang accord!

82hp lang pala yung 1.3. i think honda compromised the hp to get max torque at lower rpm (2800rpm) which is very uncharacteristic of honda. siguro dahil rin sa cvt kaya ganito.

i think it would give you decent acceleration naman considering it has cvt and max torque is at 2800rpm. older generation engines (d15, d16, b16) have to be revved up to high heavens (4000-5000rpm) to squeeze the max torque out of the engine. assuming that you're not gonna race it, i think it'll do ok (it's not meant to race anyway).

    di ko natanong yung price.
correct me if im wrong but i think its 2 spark plugs per cylinder
yeah they say it has a verygood acceleration and great seats

i beg to disagree. the transmission determines the ratio between the turning of the crankshaft and the turning of the drive wheels. All other things being equal, if two cars with the same engine but different transmissions try to race each other, obviously the car with the shorter gears will out-accelerate the other but the car with longer gears will have a greater top speed.

    April_Ryan,

hindi naman gaanong issue yung mediocre power in city driving, but the deficiency will probably make itself felt on the highway and on mountainous roads.

    kevinp,

hindi naman siguro sobrang bagal yung city even with the 82 hp 1.3L engine... magaan yung sasakyan, and the CVT makes the most out of those horses.
