May 10th, 2007 11:01 AM #1Hi to all. Im a newbie here, but been lurking for many months now.
Just wanted to get some idea on the typical field life of an alternator.
I have one which broke down lately on my 3 year old accord at 60k mileage. Im just wondering if this is a typical operating life of an alternator, without any external interferences that may contribute to the damage (water, mechanical impact, etc..).
It is currently being pursued right now with Honda that such failure is premature. Appreciate your input guys. Thanks.....

July 31st, 2007 03:19 PM #2sir,
i think medyo pre mature nga yung pagkasira ng alternator mo, who diagnosed na sira na? right now im having problems din sa alternator ko, pero i own a 95 honda esi, 12 years is normal na siguro, pero yung pagka sira nya eh gradual, medy mahina na kumarga yung alternator lalo na pag bukas ang ilaw pag gamit ko sa gabi, may dala na nga ako reserba na battery, o kaya eh bago mag park irev ko muna ng mga 2 mins (patay lahat ng ilaw at aircon) bago ko patayin ang makina coz if not, hindi na aadar kase hindi nag charge ang battery, i diagnosed the problem ginamitan ko ng tester pag bukas ang ilaw humihina ang karga ng battery.... sabi ng electrician baka maayos pa yung alternator baka magpalit ng carbon brass or some cleaning... yung case mo pa-check mo yung buong wiring ng car...
good luck
