February 9th, 2010 05:53 AM #1Sirs,
Ask ko lang kung okay lang magshift ako from fully synthetic to regular the next time na magpachange oil ako? Wala po ba siya negative effect/s? . And gano pa ba dapat kadalas magpachange oil? 99 VTI po yung car ko. TIA.

IMO, this should not be a big issue. Just do an oil change every 5,000 Km.....
However, I read from another site that some experts are 'recommending' moving first to semi-synthetic oil and then in your next oil change, you can use regular oil....

+1. ganito ang balak kong gawin sa next change oil ko. after reading reviews sa regarding Fully-synth oil vs. Semi-synth or Mineral oil, wala naman daw gaanong issues regarding kung sino ang mas tatagal na engine. as long as properly maintained lang talaga ang sasakyan. so why hassle for a very pricey oil hehe.

I'll be doing this on my next oil change...
...Simply because I won a 4L can of FK/Massimo Super SS-X mineral oil for free. I'm a full-synthetic kind of guy, pero sayang naman kung hindi ko sya gagamitin diba. ;)
I'll be switching from Royal Purple by the way, but the synth-to-mineral oil swap will be at least a few months from now.

a fully synthetic oil should last longer. it's like comparing shoes: one is made of rubber like nike, and the other is made of leather, like bristol formal shoes. if you jog around with leather patent shoes it will be destroyed faster than the shoe designed specifically for running.
that said, if you like doing long drain intervals (like me, hehe), a synthetic would be best. with synthetic, i drain out the oil every 10 months or so - the full 12 months pag talagang nakalimutan.
if you're into seeing your oil change mechanic more than usual, mineral would be best. drain it out every 5-6000 kms or so. be sure to buy a high quality mineral oil though.
stick to 10w-30/40 grades. 20w-50, kahit pwede, is a bit thick for the fine oil channels inside a honda engine.

February 9th, 2010 04:03 PM #7sir volt said it right - a full synth oil is primarily designed for high performance engine cars (like ferrari, bimmers, benz, etc) (though not really sure if VTEC or iVTEC can be classified as such) but were openly adopted for everyday use cars mainly to extend change oil intervals.....honda dealers prescribe change oil interval at every 10k while for the regular or mineral oil it is the usual 5k. i have strictly folowed this regimen and my 10 year old REVO is still in very good engine condition. oil level is maintained even at the time of change oil.
While my city - i'l try to maintain the full synth in its first 3 years......just to ensure that the dealer will have no reasons to reject any claim on waranty, if needed.
