    Honda's all-new 2012 Civic cometh
Words and photos by Christopher Kho

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) marked a special day in history last February 16, 2012 when they unveiled the all-new 2012 Civic in the country. The 9th generation of their renowned sedan has been re-engineered from the ground up and infused with attributes such as “Clean and Energetic,” “Smart Technology,” “Fun to Drive,” and “Fuel-Efficient” to make it worthy of inheriting the throne of the model it replaces. And if you're still contemplating on getting one, you better make up your mind NOW, as the first few batches of Civics in the Philippines are not assembled locally or in Thailand, but are instead, directly imported CBU from Japan.

The all-new Civic inevitably bears some similarity to its siblings, as it does belong to the family of Honda's. While it still has the distinct Civic silhouette, it's hard to miss that the front carried-over some lines from the City and the rear tail lights were inspired by the Accord. It should come as good news though that the projector halogen headlights, front fog lights, side mirror turn signals, and a reverse camera now come as standard equipment. But as with age, the Civic has somewhat lost its youthful boyracer looks and has thus matured into a family man's sedan.

Not really impressive at all. I've already seen a few ones at the street. But the Civic still has some boy-racer appeal more than as a family sedan...

Isn't Honda USA coming out with a all-newer model in next year?

Honda Civic Refresh Happening Before 2013 | The Truth About Cars

The Honda Civic is moving up its planned refresh of the 2013 Civic to fall of 2012, after just over a year on the market. The confirmation came at a Honda dealer meeting, and the refresh will apparently go beyond just cosmetic changes inside and out.

Despite being panned by critics, sales of the Civic remain solid. The Civic was America’s third best selling car in January 2012 even with parts and inventory shortages related to natural disasters in Thailand and Japan, and the best selling compact car. While Honda sold “only” 221,000 Civics in 2011, the Chevrolet Cruze only managed to sell 231,700 cars, and the Corolla/Matrix, lumped together, moved 240,000. Critical favorites, like the Ford Focus, managed 175,000 (and 45 percent of Foci were sold to fleets anyways).

I’ve managed to book both an Si Sedan and an EX sedan for a week each in April. I’ll have a 2000 Civic and my grandma on hand to help evaluate just how good (or bad) the 2012 Civic is. But for Honda to restyle their crown jewel after roughly a year on the market suggests that something is amiss at the Big H, even if consumers don’t seem to care.

exterior wise, the design could have been better if they wanted to match the korean counter part.
