at what rpm does the vtec of B16A trigger? does it strains the engine if been used too often?

As far as I remember, either 5500 rpm or 6000.

The activation of VTEC itself isn't a strain. In fact, nobody has ever heard of VTEC failure.

But the high revs themselves will cause wear over time. With diligent maintenance, it's not a problem, but excessive revving without the use of proper lubricant, or just the mere act of revving the car to kingdom come for long periods of time can cause engine failure.

    Wrong!

Activation of vtec for b16a depends on many factors, it does not rely merely on reaching certain RPM band, it does not activate alone when your engine rpm reached 5500 rpm other factors are taken into account like oil pressure, engine temp, engine speed. engine load. When your ecu senses that all elements for vtec to be triggered then it activate vtec solenoid to give you a wild cam experience.

Dont worry in reving your b16a high your ecu have rev limiter. b16a (SiR 1), b16b (civic type r) or b18c5 (Integra type R) is a race engine design to be rev high. all vtec engine is design to be a high reving engine. Remember no vtec at low rpm honda did not design that vtec engine to live at low rpm. dont make that vtec logo as a mere paper tiger, live with vtec

a healthy engine is assumed here. hence, the rpm cut-off is the topic. the rpm is the most influential factor of all. you can use an apexi vafc controller and set the vtec cross-over point to 2K rpm (low oil pressure, low engine speed, high engine load) and still have the wild cams activated.
but, of course the effect of that is quite funny!

So... what are the chances that you'll be at 6000 rpm at low load and low throttle openings, anyway?

start the car on 5th gear, that will activate the vtec on low rpm... right?
