I was asked by a Honda rep from Japan sometime in August 2016 about our suggestions for launching a diesel car here and I said na yes, that will affect the car competition dahil may bago nang option aside from the usual Toyota and Mitsu and other players.

It seems like the 1.5t petrol engine is priced the same as the 1.6T diesel engine. hence making more sense to put the diesel instead of the 1.5t petrol earthdreams engine.

Am still skeptical about the 3rd row. Even with Honda's expertise in interior packaging, with the published dimensions I bet it will still be a 5+2 like the Xtrail.

But the BRV has a better 3rd row than the Montero, so Honda could be on to something with the CRV.

Some of my friends who got word from HondaPH told me that the new CRV might be priced in the 2M range already. I guess Honda is not keen to offer a cheaper competitor to the CX5 diesel but offer the "premium" Kool-Aid they have always been marketing locally. I guess HondaPH might be going after a portion of the sales of the Sorento and Santa Fe CRDi.

Kaya lang naman matakaw sa gas ay dahil pang winter yung design. Sa likod ng radiator kumukuha ng air yung intake tapos may coolant sa throttle body at sa pipe papuntang crankcase.

1 Baht is 1.50 Pesos. So that's over 2M.

Ouch and more ouch! Im sure that might be justified by everything the cr-v has to offer but i wish they could have started pricing an entry level version at the 1.3-1.4m peso level

No way Honda would do that. The CRV with a 1.5 Turbo will sell well even at an entry price of around 1.6M. The 1.6 diesel can probably go as high as 1.7-1.8M and still sell, judging by the high sales of mid-trim PPVs. For sure the TOTL diesel AWD will breach 2M.

Aguy! Crv at 1.8m plus..can't afford that anymore. Parang cx-5 diesel. I know they are not direct competitors but it makes the golf gts an absolute bargain.

The Golf GTS at 1.4M doesn't have the ride height nor the brand equity of the CRV so it still won't sell.

The GTS is a niche car and I'm happy to see a few on the roads, but it will never be a volume seller. VW has a long way to go locally in order to establish the same dominance it has in Europe. Key barriers are the perception in terms of maintenance cost and parts availability, as well as the lack of dealerships/service centers.
