Need help; power steering rack assy is leaking; pinasok tubig yung shaft kasi inabot ng baha; nung binaba assembly nakita yung shaft may tama na;suggestion is palitan with replacement around 22k; oem is around 43k; may nag suggest naman i-rechrome shafting then irecondition yung assy using repair kit;
may surplus naman around 15-16k;
Is chroming reliable? what do you suggest? oem sana kaso parang masyado na mahal;

August 26th, 2010 01:23 AM #2I wouldn't advice for that rechroming...its just thin film of chrome via electroplating...your best option if I were you were the surplus, Kung namamahalan ka sa OEM. Just closely inspect that shaft at baka naman malapit na ring magkatama.

August 26th, 2010 11:20 AM #3Re-chroming is not recommended and feasible for internal parts. Suggest to bring the steering rack to a reputable machine shop for evaluation. They could rebuilt that by building up and re-facing the damaged portion of the shaft.
