I was tailing a black Toyota Fortuner 3.0 D4d along EDSA today. The license plates read UNK555 under the tinted glass covers.

The license plates are also of the non-Rizal variety (Philippines 2000?).

Just got me wondering. Hindi ba Rizal plates na ang lahat ng plates nung lumabas ang Fortuner? And the plate series UNK came out in 1998 if I remember right.

    Hmmmm...

UNT is around '95 yata. Our UTA is a '96 eh.

Maybe iwas coding? Not necessarily installed today. Baka a few days ago, hindi pa lang nabalik.

Posible din na carnap, but I doubt it. No carnapper in their right mind would parade that thing around the metro with all the checkpoints sprouting about.

Pwede naman siguro na personalized plate, tapos painted to look like the old plates. Some people do not like the Rizal design. For all we know UNK could stand for his initials.

Sorry for my ignorance, but do you have to change your plate every year.

Nope. But license plates are issued to vehicles and not their owners. So when you sell off a vehicle, the license plate gets sold with it.

So its pretty easy to approximate what year a certain plate came out.

We were to poor to have vehicle when I was at home, I'm just lucky enough now that I have to my own, instead of riding the bus to work (which I prefer, anyway). We have to keep the license plate that was issued to your vehicle when you first own it, we just get stickers every time we renewed it.

The fact na "555" yung number, malamang customized plates yan.

Ayan yata yung mayari ng sardines factory.

I estimate the "UNK" plate came out around in '97.

OTEP, you mentioned that it does not have the rizal background, therefore it is definitely NOT a plate that was issued in the past three years (rizal background plates arrived around late 2002 to early 2003). Did you notice any other words on the plate like "Pilipinas", "Perlas ng Silangan" (2001-2002), "Philippines 2000" (1995-2000), "Angat Pinoy 2004" (1999-2001), "Matatag na Republika" (2003-present)?
