Why is it that there are fewer disciplined drivers?

dapat talaga... it's absolutely ridiculous that the written licensure test has the answers encircled right on the questionnaire. just goes to show how terribly... ridiculous the system is here in the philippines

Why can't people have discipline while driving????

Just today I met around 6 drivers who have nothing to do but deliberately cut in front of me just to see my reaction. Jeepney drivers, private car drivers, you name it.

One time I count 20, THATS TWENTY vehicles that RAN ONE RED LIGHT.

e sistema din naman ng pag kuha ng driver's license may problema din...
saa exam kahit anong aral mo
kapag na kursunadahan ka - bagsak ka
at kung hindi ka maglalagay hindi ka makakakuha ng lisensya

But if what you say is true, that motorists aren't well-educated enough, then how come ALL motorists suddenly follow the traffic rules when they're in places like Subic or Clark? Or since recently, when they're in an NCAP-zone?

No, I don't believe that education and licensing are the main issues.... rather, it's the a) Lack of consistent and strict traffic enforcement, and b) Lack of self-discipline.

Pinoys are the "diskarte" masters. They will bend the rules or outright break it when nobody's looking. No amount of education can make up for bad parenting/upbringing.

sa company lang ng brother ko, 70% of their drivers are kamote.. mga dating pahinante nag aral habang may delivery sa malalayong municipalities and towns. ipaparada sa gilid then magpapaturo mag drive {kaya pagbalik ng trucks - may mga basag ang side mirror ; ball mirror ; dents sa head cabin. meron ding may crack na yun windshield. sa manila kapag non pro ka - hindi pwede mag drive ng commercial vehicle. dito sa province pwede.

Ahh.. I now know where you're coming from. I think you're wrong though... Non-pro DL holders aren't allowed to drive commercial trucks and busses anywhere in the PH. The fact that you said "dito sa province pwede", just proved me right that we lack enforcement.

Most motorists know what's right from wrong.... that's why they can follow rules while driving in traffic discipline zones. The motivation is not to get caught and penalized. But in areas where enforcement is relaxed... provinces, rural areas, many parts of major cities, a great number of motorists just lean towards what is advantageous to them. That's fine if it doesn't constitute a traffic infraction. However, I'm talking about motorists who knows it's wrong but still do it anyway because they have no self-discipline and there's nobody stopping them.

when we came back (to the Philippines). I enrolled my wife and daughter sa A1.

They were amazed sa classroom and practical exams nila. my daughter almost didn't pass the practical test for motorcycles. Safety gear was required for motorcycle practical.

2 years later, a friend of my wife enrolled sa driving school beside A1. She finds A1 too expensive, hassle din daw yung 3 classroom days required ng A1.

Motorcycle - someone arrived with a Fazio daw and asked her if marunong sya mag bike... they just saw her drive straight and back... ok na daw yun.

Car - they just drove inside a private village

Classroom was only 1 day. they gave her a reviewer tapos self study na lang daw sya.

A month later, they messaged her to look for a specific guy sa isang specific LTO branch. No tests sa LTO. they just gave her a license.

Yes, nakakalungkot na this happened last year. 2024 na, may fixer pa din sa LTO.

Same lady friend drives to work... and rides her scooter during coding days. Buti I managed to convince her to get a proper helmet. You have no idea how hard it was for me and my wife to convince her to get proper gloves and shoes... riding jacket is still an ongoing challenge.

Pero until we have proper education for would be drivers... dadami lang ng dadami ang undiciplines drivers sa daan.

I refuse to use the word kamote... Nung 90's PUV drivers and "kamote" kasi kapag nagkaroon ng accident, they will scratch their heads kasi wala silang pambayad...

Nowadays, we have lots of undisciplined/uneducated drivers na may pambayad... so they don't scratch their heads kasi they can pay for the damage they've done.

If that's what it takes? it's still progress. I'm pleasantly surprised with traffic discipline in Manila, the short time it takes to get from Pamplona, LPC to the airport, the overall cleanliness at my neighborhood there.
