share ko lang experience (katangahan?) ko.

last thursday night (around 10 pm), dumaan ako ng meralco avenue going to eastwood via ortigas avenue. nag-overpass ako crossing doņa vargas avenue. pagdating ko sa baba (bandang ortigas avenue), di ko napansin from afar ang isang pothole (bandang right side lanes joining ortigas avenue towards the direction of rosario).

it is not a pothole actually; its a square manhole (of some sort) with metal cover. ang cover ng manhole mga isang dangkal from the road surface. malapit na ako ng nakita ko.

split second decision: let my left front tire run over it kasi i was not sure kung malayo yong nasa buntot ko (pagbilang hinto, baka mabangaan ako sa likod) and a taxi was behind me to my right (baka masubrahan sa kabig at magcollide kami ng taxi). tsaka medyo mabilis ang speed ko kasi walang traffic up front.

yong iba sa inyo dyan na may alam na dangerous pothole, paki-post na rin po dito, para malaman ng lahat at maiwasan. maiwasan din ang pagkasira ng tire at ang aksidente. maybe, we could come up with a list to be updated from time to time.

    thanks.

One of the most common potholes that i see are the manhole covers on the road. A lot of these manhole covers for some reason as often submerged from the road when they should be level. Kinda hard to avoid them.

Another bad portion is the Ortigas Avenue, Santolan intersection. For a major road, it is no better than a dirt road right now.

    he he he :cheers2:

given na kasi yan. kaso iniloklok ang mga taong ganun ng madlang pipol. di ko maintindihan kung bakit. isa lang boto ko.

as a temporary remedy, giving each other advance warning could be of great help.

Had the same thing almost happen to me when I was in Manila last week driving my father-in-laws car. My wife and I were in Quezon Circle and they had a square drain in the middle without any cover. I almost drove the car into it but I got lucky and manage to swerve enough to straddle it and drive over the hole. I expect pot holes in the streets of the metro when I drive, but open drains are another thing all together. If I hadn't swerved the car would have fell in the hole and been damaged.

sinira ng Manila Water ang Ortigas-Santolan intersection, hindi na nila binalik sa dating cemented road.

Grabe yung square manhole sa foot ng flyover in front of Metrowalk... super lalim. Same with the square manhole in front of Shell/Ortigas Building (same road).

the reasons on why manholes are big problems on our roads:

    (1) freakin' bakal boys steal the covers. remember the flyovers with no railings? the mmda pink fences that disappear come morning? same sh** happens with manholes.

    (2) why are manholes lower than road level? because dpwh and the water company contractors are not following road building standards! when the dig a hole for a pipe, they put the manhole directly into the concrete, not giving allowance for asphalt. why? because dpwh is inconsistent. some roads have asphalt, some concrete only, some don't even have cement.

(DPWH acknowledged that only 70% of the total road network in the Philippines are cemented)

so what happens? manhole in concrete, no extension. here comes the dpwh/LGUs asphalt layers, who of course will dodge the manholes. = stupid road conditions

***and oh, there's a reason for the manhole's round shape. Any engineer would know that. SQUARE/RECTANGLE MANHOLES! Good Lord!

Sa mga Jazz owners, magingat kayo lalo. Ang panget ng tunog pag nadali ka sa pothole when the front wheels run over them, maski maliit lang basta swak, masakit sa tenga. Rear wheels walang problema.

Ever get that feeling na yung nails kinakamot sa board? Ganun yung feeling ko when I ran over some nung tag ulan dati, di kasi makita.
