my wife and I went to the heritage village of vigan a week ago. after our tour we had lunch at a small resto there. as i was about to finish my meal, i saw two police/military men in full combat gear (m-16s, pistols w/ complete acc) outside the window. kala ko parang mga patrol lang sa area kasi nga tourist spot bi ba?
tapos may pumasok na isang family sa resto. after a while, kasunod yung dalawang rambo. ahhh bodyguards pala di patrol. nauna ko lumabas para magyosi. may nakapark na terrano and pajero, nun ko nalaman kung sinong VIP yun.
in fairness, maya-maya pa lumabas ung dalawang bodyguards kasama driver or anak nung VIP at nilagay sa pajero yung 2 m-16s (maliit lang kasi resto tsaka medyo puno that time baka nahiya). pero naisip ko rin nasa ilocos sur nga pala ko! hehehehe

di ba ang rule sa security escorts eh hindi dapat intimidating, like all firearms must be carried concealed? pag m-16 ang dala e dapat sa car lang di ba? sabagay, what are they in power for ika nga!

Yup, bodyguards are supposed to provide protection for their principal. Not scare the hell out of us ordinary civilians.
The security of someone close to me never takes the pistols out of the vehicle.
One of my co-clerks is the daughter of the vice president of one of the biggest telecom companies in our country. And I don't see her security personell pulling out guns and stuff.
Kanya kanyang style na lang siguro iyan. Some are better trained than others at being low-key and discrete in providing VIP protection.

My neighbor is the vice president of our country and I don't see the PSG running around our street with M-16's.
Usually naka-barong lang or pambahay pa kung minsan.

I had a classmate/kabarkada in college na youngest daughter ng isang congresswoman sa Mindanao.
