    Here's another one for JMK,
Siguro they need to educate narin ang crew nila sometime January my friend decided to stop on the side of the road dahil puno na yung parking ng establishment para bumili ng dog food sa petshop his wife seating dun sa passenger side. ganon kabilis may pumarada na JMK tow truck sa harap ng car nya one of it's crew took a driver seat at di na umalis dun. While the rest of the gang ay ikinabit na yung pang hila, my friend argued sabi nya umaandar naman yang kotse (2006 Toyota) bakit kailangan mo mag tow, yun daw kasi ang BATAS!!!! my friend (OFW sya) don't want more trouble dahil may pagka nerbiyoso rin he paid Php1500 sa ofc.

    From the Philippine Star.

Buti nga sa kanila! Kung sa akin nangyari 'to malamang nasa kulungan ako ngayon for attempted murder. Di ko siguro mapipigilan sarili ko na di sila hatawin ng baseball bat!

    Towing crew booked for carjacking
    By Perseus Echeminada
    The Philippine Star 02/16/2007

A timely report to the police by a mother led to the arrest of four men who forcibly towed her daughter’s stalled car in Quezon City early Wednesday night.

The four were charged with carjacking for taking the car away despite protests from its owner.

Superintendent Bernabe Balba, District Intelligence Investigation Division (DIID), issued a general alarm after STAR employee Melita Dioso reported that a Toyota Corolla sedan driven by her son, Regidor, was forcibly taken by four men in a tow truck.

He was accompanied by his brother Duke, their sister, Christine, and her husband Kristoffer.

The car had developed engine trouble along Commonwealth Avenue at around 7 p.m. Four men alighted from a tow truck, owned by JMF Towing Service, as the driver tried to restart the engine. The tow truck had no license plate.

The four – Santiago Sera, 25; Arsenio Garcia Jr., 38; Louie Jay Manalo, 18; and Juanito Cartoner, 41 – took over and took the car away, with Regidor and Christine in it, and left the two others behind. The two at first ran after the truck and then managed to get a taxi.

Christine phoned her mother at the STAR for help. She reported her location as the tow truck continued to speed away. Dioso in turn called the Quezon City Police District for assistance and Balba called a citywide alarm.

Police "choke points" – set up in key areas as part of QCPD chief Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula’s new crime prevention strategy – were alerted for the tow truck.

A police car spotted the truck along Commonwealth 10 minutes after the alarm was called and the truck was ordered to pull over. Instead, the truck sped up towards Fairview Market, prompting the police cruiser to give chase and call for backup.

Other police cars responded and intercepted the truck, cornering the four men. Anti-carjacking operatives led by Inspector Nicolas, chief of the QCPD anti carjacking unit, arrested the four and brought them to the headquarters for questioning.

The four asked for a settlement after they were slapped with carjacking charges. The victim’s family is currently considering whether or not to pursue the case.

Motorists interviewed by the STAR said illegal towing remains rampant in Metro Manila despite complaints from the public. Car thieves are also known to pose as tow truck crews. "You just alight from your car, you’ll get towed," according to one taxi driver.

Hi sir Jappy, well technically no parking zone talaga kung saan ka nag-park from 7 am - 10 am and 5 pm - 7 pm. Pero syempre mali sila to tow your vehicle coz you were right there. I saw an Altis being towed the other day. There were other parked cars there as well but the Altis had no car in front of it so I assume yun ang pinakamabilis na ma-tow

Carry a pepper mace spray or tazer in the glove compartment, in case your wife is left in the car and they board it.

Glad to see some progress with reporting it in the STAR, though.

Now, if carnappers actually pose as tow truck crew, ibang usapan na yan. They may also be armed, and being disguised makes it harder. This is becoming worse!

Hmm... if carnappers would pose as a towing crew, then they would also have to carnap a tow truck first. Di ba mahirap yun coz pag magnanakaw sila ng tow truck, mahihirapan silang tumakas from their victim coz mabagal takbo ng tow truck La lang, naisip ko lang

Yes but if the victim thinks they're a legit tow truck company, they wouldn't think twice. The crew could just say kunin mo na lang dito sa ganito when in fact they will take it somewhere else.

meron pang ibang mga crew na ayaw magbigay ng pangalan nila... i mean...pano mo ipagkakatiwala ang oto mo sa isang taong walang maipakitang ID sa yo? at saka... ang tanga ng gumawa ng batas na "their salary for the day depends on how many they towed"...

alis na tayo lahat sa pinas???

dapat ipagbawal na yan towing. wala rin silang proper equipment and training to do that. yung CRV gen-1 ko one time na tow sa binondo area. after claiming the vehicle may mga sound galing sa ilalim ng vehicle. could be something's wrong with the matic transmission. nakalagay kasi sa "P" yun nung time na tow. buwiset talaga! humabol pa nga yung driver namin na sinabi itatabi na lang yung oto, biro mo ang sagot sa amin ng towing "sensya na, nakakabit na yung kadena, nahuli ka lang ng ilang segundo"

    uu nga eh. badtrip talaga.
kaya ko lang naman tinabi dun sa left side, para di ako nakaka-abala sa right lane, where most vehicles pass.

    *3ple4
yep. i know din naman no parking talaga dun. i could have just turned-on the hazard sa right lane, kaso makaka-abala kasi ako flow ng traffic. saw the space between those suvs and placed the vehicle there.
tapos ako ung nakita nila para i-tow. i would have gladly let them tow me if ako lang yung naka-park dun sa left side, but it was not the case, medyo madami talaga naka-park.
    hehehe.
