Are the two (2) conventional brake lights not sufficient?
And there are vehicles that have fourth brake light.
Conventional brake lights are enough to signal to the car behind it's intentions. The third brake light (or high mounted brake light) is to signal the cars following the car behind you of your intention to slow or stop. This basically tried to prevent/minimizes a car pile-up collision event.
Of course this assumes the cars do not have tinted windows.
So the motorist can see them easily. Then compare them with delivery truck that there tailight or brakelight is so difficult to see..
Based on research done prior to making high mount stoplights mandatory in other markets, high mount stoplights (3rd brake lamps) can reduce the occurence of rear end crashes by as much as 54% compared to not having one.
The third brake light is not only easier to see, but the change in the vehicle's 'taillight signature/pattern' makes it easier for the following driver to discern if the vehicle is actually braking.
In Europe, most cars have separate lenses for brakelamps and taillamps specifically because the change in pattern is easier to see. Just look at Volvos, Benzes, BMW's and recent Hyundais (e.g. Tucson) and Suzukis (e.g. APV).

I was once behind this big body corolla and his third brake light lense was removed so everytime he stopped it was really blinding....are they intentionally doing that for fun or just to be a nuisance? made me want to install an HID on my 3rd brake light hehehe! :D
The 3rd brake light is helpful.
Btw, why is this in the goon squad?
Oo nga hehehe.
Third Brake lights are pretty much self-explanatory as they are standard.
IMO,- it is an absolute necessity these days.
Dapat dito high-mounted 3rd brake light. If a truck is following you, at that angle, it might be hard for the truck driver to discern the change in your regular brake light. Therefore the need for a high-mounted 3rd brake light.
:starwars:
third brake light is a must kasi yun nagmumuning back driver hindi naman nahihiwalay ang tingin ng dalawang mata.
yup standard ata ang 3rd brakelight..kasi nga yung iba d kaagad na papansin yun regular brakelights..![]()
3rd brake light.....
kasi po pangatlo sya...joke..
IMO,
1. it should be placed higher than the usual break lights, (para makita ng ibang motorists especially the ones next to your car, lalo na pag trucks etc...)
2. the idea of removing red cover is not really nice, its blinding everyone, lalo na pag traffic at every break eh iilaw ba naman ng maliwanag....baka batuhin ka ng sumusunod sayo, worst is that banggain ka...(break light nga eh, kaya PULA dapat...
I also saw your query sa North Auto Club. Well the 3rd brake light is a safety aid. Considering it's placement on most cars it's located higher than the tail lamps for the higher riding vehicles to see you.
siguro pag nakasakay ka na sa isang delivery truck or yung mga dambuhalang trucks maiintindihan mo kung bakit useful ang third brake lights.
what can you say those drivers na keep stepping the brake na hindi naman necessary.. for me I feel uncomfortable especially yung mga merong 3rd brake light infront of me.
