8 kids? How can that taxi driver hope to feed that number of kids even if his case doesn't proceed?
Anyway, the mere fact that the taxi driver lunged a knife at you and then tried to avoid responsibility for his actions by throwing the evidence away is not something that you should forgive. He crossed the path beyond forgiveness the minute he took out his knife and tried to kill you with it. The only reason why the wife is asking for forgiveness is that they know they can not get away with it. She even insulted you by saying that just because you are well off, you should take pity on them because they are poor. People like them should realize that they are poor because of their own bad decisions. By having too many kids, by not putting effort in their education, by not saving their money and using them for vices like drinking and smoking. People like them should be put behind bars where they belong.
What about those 8 kids? Well, they are the victims of their parent's bad decisions. They are not your responsibility. With parents like them, (a tempermental & uneducated brute for a father and a consenting & a self serving wench for a mother), their situation will not improve anyway even if their dad is with them.
Also, let's look at the other side. What if the taxi driver succeeded in injuring you? Would they take care of your family? No, they would have left you dying on the street. Chances are, he would have even gone back to his taxi and made sure he finished his work. His wife would have done nothing as she seems to accomodate every whim of her husband. You are doing society a favor by removing him from hurting anybody else. Because if he is not jailed for this, chances are. He will kill somebody through his driving or his bad temper.

Good thing nothing bad happen to you Black Magic. Get to pull some strings though... iba kasi justice system natin dito... mabagal.

According to the investigator, he will be filing Attempted Homicide on my part and Illegal Possession of Deadly Weapon on their part. He is hoping the fiscal would approve of the Attempted Homicide than relegating it to Grave Threat.
