typical issues with the BOD on a condo corp. old and new guard is backed by old and new board having their own claims.

I work here at the 23rd floor. Halos 2 months na yung sitwasyon na ganyan. Ang daming guard sa lobby, mga 10+ siguro. All armed with rifles. Araw araw ganito don kaya hindi nakakapagtaka na may threat talaga. Akala ko nga hostaged na kame kase wala silang pinapababa na tenants, yun pala nag kabarilan na. Old BOD vs New BOD , each with their own set of security agency. Talagang mauuwi sa patayan pare-pareho silang mainit.

It's not my first time to hear of old and new BOD / association officers fighting it out. I really don't understand why these fights get ugly. Are the benefits / compensation packages so large that people would die for it? It's as if there's pork involved.

You'd be surprised. It's usually money/vested interests when you root it out though.

AFAIK, most condo corporations are non-stock, non-profit, so their directors don't get paid other than reasonable per diems (malaki na ang 5-10k, kung high-end condo project) for every meeting attended. Considering its location, baka ang pinagaawayan eh yung gamit sa G/F retail spaces because those commercial spaces are being leased out and are likely generating substantial income for the condo corp.

Most subdivisions too, are non-profit. However, that doesn't mean they (the people managing) can't "earn" from contacts and stuff as you mentioned. We had a recent issue at our subdivision and it really opened up a can of worms.

non profit yang mga condo corps. pero po kasi kapag nag implement ka ng mga projects jan, dun pumapalo yung kickback, pwede kasing me connection yung contractor dun sa bod's kaya talagang under the table yung bigayan pero sa audit malinis kasi meron procedures na nasunod

Agreed. Most likely, security and maintenance contracts which could be lucrative.
