Cop who blocked PNoy convoy arrogant: Palace

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said a policeman who tried to block the convoy of President Aquino in Quezon City was “quite arrogant.”

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda however said the relief of the policeman was an “administrative decision” of the Quezon City Police District.

“The policeman was quite arrogant in insisting that he be allowed to do a U-turn whereas the convoy was already going straight. In fact, we understand that he even showed a badge to the motorcycle cops who were escorting the convoy. What we understood was that he was brought to the police station, to the jurisdiction of the Quezon City Police District, and he was turned over to them. We have no information until just now that he was already sacked by the Quezon City Police,” Lacierda said.

“It was an administrative decision by the Quezon City Police District. What I know is that we are just going to file a report. I spoke to [Brigadier] General Chito Dizon, head of the PSG, and they were just about to file a formal report,” he added.

SPO2 Ricardo Pascua was relieved of duty Tuesday for refusing to give way to the convoy of President Aquino on Monday.

Pascua was driving a Mitsubishi Adventure when he allegedly refused to give way to the president’s convoy along Commonwealth Avenue even as several Presidential Security Group (PSG) personnel asked him.

The PSG said Pascua told them that he was a policeman, prompting them to bring the matter to Pascua's superiors.

Aquino was reportedly on his way to attend a program at the La Mesa Dam near Batasan.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Mario Dela Vega said Pascua has been relieved from his post at the QCPD Station 4.

Pascua, who has been working as a policeman for about 30 years, was also disarmed. He will be deployed to Camp Karingal where he will serve as a gate guard.

Pascua said he did not intend to disrespect Aquino and his security men and claimed he did not notice that he was blocking the president’s convoy.

He extended his apologies to Aquino and members of the PSG.

Dela Vega said Pascua will also face summary dismissal proceedings. – With a report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
