Hahaha....may under the table negotiation going on. Pota baklang ito, napakamahal ng demand, from 200M down to 38M with 6 US visa. Pwede na 2 litson manok at 1 coke litro. Bading na GRO = manlilinlang . Hangang sa kaso gusto maka-isa.

Nabulunan sa tarugo ni marine si bading ang tunay na kinamatay.

OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines – The camp of United States Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, who is charged with the murder of Filipino transgender Jeffrey “Jennifer” Laude in October last year, claimed that the complainants have issued new demands that include six US visas and P38 million in exchange for dropping the case.

Defense counsel Rowena Flores said that the information was relayed to her by a reliable source.

Flores said the new amount being asked was separate from the P21.6 million initially asked by Laude’s lawyer Virgie Suarez, who sent the computation in her own handwriting. The latter said that they changed their mind and are now asking for P200 million in damages.

Suarez, one of the private counsels of the Laude family, said the payment is for the actual, moral, and exemplary damages that Laude’s sister Marilou had declared.

“The P21 million was an initial computation of damages made,” Suarez told The STAR.

Well, at least we know they're not pursuing the case out of some righteous indignation or principle. It's about MONEY and how much the private complainants want. Maybe most of it will be used to fund Atty. Harry Roque's run for a senate seat.

Not sure what the sense is in getting US visas. No matter where you side on the case, i don't think they're very welcome there.

I read a US based forum (forgot which one but this was 2 weeks ago) on this topic and almost all of the comments were against Pemberton. There was no bigotry, no gay bashing, no racist remarks, etc. They know Laude was gay, that he presented himself as a woman, Pemberton a US marine, a crime was committed, and they all said that the criminal needs to be punished. Some of the comments even came from active and former members of the armed services, marines included.

There's no question that Pemberton needs to pay (and be jailed) for killing a local. I just wonder why so many people are riding on it and making it an issue of: gay/transgender rights, the EDCA, US-Phil. relations.

Sinakyan na ng mga radikal at mga gustong magpapansin eh sa totoo lang its a police matter which has already been elevated to our trial courts for the prosecution of the accused.

I thought so, murder is planned, this one -with mitigating circumstances and alcohol-hardly a case for murder.

I wonder what the VFA arrangement says about this. Pinag-uusapan pa daw eh. Pero at lets tapos na isyu. Kawawa na nman si PNoy eh. Siya na naman may kasalanan.

I work with current and former marines. First thing they tell before getting off the ship in Thailand or in Subic is to make sure to check the package!

I guess nagsisisi mga Laude ngayon...yung 100 million at mga Visa naging lupa lang...

Pemberton was ordered to pay the heirs of Laude the following: P50,000 ($1,060) in civil indemnity; P4.32 million ($91,620) damages for loss of earning capacity; P155,250 as reimbursement for wake, burial and other funeral expenses; P50,000 in moral damages; and P30,000 ($636) in exemplary damages.
Standoff between PH, US on Pemberton detention

US authorities have refused to turn over Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton to Philippine authorities despite orders from the Olongapo Regional Trial Court.

Pemberton has been convicted of homicide and sentenced to suffer of up to 12 years imprisonment. The court said in the absence of any agreement on his specific detention, he should be turned over the the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Atty. Harry Roque, counsel of the Laude family said there is a standoff as 12 US guards surrounded Pemberton, preventing the Philippine police from taking him.

Roque said Pemberton’s camp has filed a handwritten motion for clarification on his detention.

“Such motion is frivolous and a clear violation of the Rules of Court,” Roque said.
