I cant blame the cops, di ka naman ata kinotongan...medyo conflicting yung statement mo, clear glass pero may light green (which I assume to be a shade or tint)...but the way I see it, your plate cover is NOT clear glass at all. I've seen those plate covers with light green tints, and they are hard to see at night.
And yes, obstructing the plate which makes it difficult to see (particularly at night, is illegal. Check the LTO website.
For me, (and I'm not trying to flame), this is a non-issue. I even think we should commend the cops who embark on this operation, provided na hindi sila nangongotong. Ibang usapan na yun.

AFAIK... any kind of tint (whether light or dark) is not allowed... kasi kahit ung light lang pagka tint pagdating ng gabi mahirap na basahin.

Are they hard to see at night? it depends on what type of license plate you are using. The license plates that were issued from 2003 upwards seem to have less reflective paint than the years before that.

I scanned both the MMDA and LTO web sites for a copy of the memo on this issue but I couldn't find anything.
Anyhow, I agree that it's about time the authorities did something about tinted license plate covers that make it difficult to see the plate underneath. Kaso, huwag naman sana nila idamay pati yung mga may clear license plate holder gaya ko dahil iba naman ang dahilan kung bakit kami naglalagay nun.
The clear plate holders serve to protect plates from accidental breakage and exposure to the elements. They also deter the theft of the plates by robbers or vandals. I keep my plate holders clean, and they help prolong the life and color of my plates and LTO stickers.
I hope someone can furnish us with a copy of the guidelines regarding this operation so that we will know the rationale behind it.

July 7th, 2006 03:56 AM #29lets not flame the thread...technically a cover sa plate that obstruct the view of the numbers or identity (ke light shade of green pa yan) is illegal.
problem ng cop na nanghuli ay hindi sila nagdala ng copy ng memo, pero in reality IGNORANCE of the law is not a valid claim, kahit isampa mo pa sa jusgado yan.
at best, you can always contest the charges sa iyo if you feel mali ang pagkakahuli sa iyo. pedeng hindi pirmahan ang ticket kung i-co-contest mo ang asunto sa iyo (if I recall it right).

July 7th, 2006 04:45 AM #30I'm not trying to flame the thread, it just irks me when people already know that its illegal and still they are incline of doing such foolish thing. Then, throw a tantrum when authorities apprehend or give them a ticket. If the cops brought with them all the memo or code books, thats all they be carrying.
Ang tagal na ibinalita yang ban. Tapos warning pa ang ginawa first few days. Yung mga nahuli pa...
