I too have clear covers, and I still have a year left on my ride before it will be replaced. Need to think what to do with them once they're retired.

^^ Was thinking about that as well... just remove the lens but keep the housing and frame. It can still help protect the the plate but more importantly, reduce chances of injuring crossing pedestrians. The sharp edges on a naked plate can snag clothing, bags, or flesh.

But I think it's going to be subject to interpretation on the legality of whether the housing and/or frame will still be considered a form of tampering.

EDIT: Ah, well, bawal na talaga... kahit backing di na pwede. Lalo na kung may frame na pumapalibot sa plate.

Another BS thing. We put clear plate covers to protect the plates from fading and scratches, and protecting those registration stickers. !*#% talaga ang utak ng mga nasa LTO. Talagang pera-pera nalang ang kalakaran dito sa atin ngayon. Follow or else, I'll take your money :hammer:

If LTO wants no covers, but have they tested the plates if they can't fade, despite the pollution, dirt, and subsequent carwashes? Parang di maganda ang quality ng bagong stickers, they're rough and could collect dirt, Hope it will last a year when it's time to replace them.

For protection, I spray clear coat paint sa plate number. Protection from fading etc.
