THE OWNER of the Pearl Plaza Building in Pasig City was shot and killed on Thursday, police said.
Leonardo Umale, not Umali as reported earlier, sustained multiple gunshot wounds after being shot at close range at about 11:30 a.m., as he alighted from his car and walked on the driveway leading to the building in front of the University of Asia and the Pacific, police said quoting witnesses.

Police said Umale’s companion, Erning Lantion, an electrician, was wounded in the shooting.

Police said four suspects were seen approaching Umale but that only one of them shot the businessman.

Police would not say what the motive could be behind the killing.

But Metro Manila police Director Vidal Querol, who went to the crime scene, vowed to leave no stone unturned in the police investigation.

Umale had been involved in a fight over a stretch of parking space in the Ortigas Center in Pasig City.

In January 2005, a heated confrontation between Umale and his two sons and security men of the Superb Security Agency hired by Umale’s rival, Creekside Park Inc., resulted in a shooting incident after the security agency took over the parking area.

Superb Security Agency is reportedly run a by son of Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson.

Creekside was awarded a contract by the Ortigas Company to manage the parking area after Umale’s contract with expired.

been one of the tenants dyan sa pearl plaza a few years back....berdugo talaga sila pagdating sa pamamahala that's why di rin kami nakatagal dyan...and tell you, marami ang nagbunyi sa building nya nung malaman ang balita....tsk tsk tsk!
