Have you seen this lately on the road? Many of them lurks in the streets especially in the city of Manila (where they are very well tolerated). Perfect example of Filipino ingenuity and creativity. But why the concern?

Picture this scenario . . . you are driving along the road then suddenly a motorized pedicab bumps you from the side, creating a huge dent and scratches. The driver just scratches his head. No money to compensate for the damages. No LTO driver's license. No plate # on his vehicle.

Nakakaasar di po ba?! And believe me, hataw silang sumingit at magpatakbo.

Attention: PNP, LTO, at Mayor Lim

Sa Bustillos marami niyan. Iba-ibang klase.

Filipino ingenuity at its best ika nga . .

There is no city ordinance which bans them and the operators of those contraptions are policemen. Those Manila yellow traffic enforcers just ignore them. The only time FILIPINO authorities will react is when someone gets killed...

Actually there is an ordinance in most metro cities. The MMDA and other traffic authorities are just turning a blind-eye. Selective apprehension I would say...

At this time, I would say these 3-wheeled vehicles are free to roam the major city streets... until elections are over...

MANILA, Philippines—Pedicab and "kuliglig" (motorized pedicab) drivers in the city of Manila on Thursday expressed their opposition to Mayor Alfredo Lim's executive orders seeking to ban them from the city streets starting December 1.

The Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Pedicab at Kuliglig Drivers Manila (Alnapedku) held a press conference Thursday noon at Nepomuceno St., Quiapo to ask the city government to reconsider its decision.

We are against Lim's E.O. 16 and 17 which would rob us of our livelihood. Especially for the Christmas season, we ask our right to a decent living be acknowledged, and that our families not be allowed to starve,") said Alnapedku spokesperson Fernando Picorro.

But Manila city hall chief-of-staff Ricardo de Guzman said there was little chance the orders would be revoked.

"We have already given them a chance before to change their business and to have them remove their motors," he said. He added they were even given a grace period to do so. The original implementation date of the executive orders was on September 15, which was extended to December 1.

Lim's E.O. 17 banned all pedicabs and tricycles from Ermita-Malate roads, along Taft Avenue from Lawton to Vito Cruz, Roxas Blvd., and all national roads in the city.

They are, however, allowed to operate on sidestreets and residential areas.

Those who violate the orders will be fined P500 and their vehicles impounded.

The city government has been receiving many complaints against the three-wheeled vehicles, largely blamed for worsening air pollution and traffic the city.

Delikado sila lalo na pag gabi, wala man lang reflectors or any indication na nandoon sila.

For the family my ass.

Typical PUV driver mentality.

Kung ayaw nila ma-ban, iparehistro nila ang motorized vehicle nila sa LTO, which is required by law. Good luck with that.

Since the motors used to run the "kuligligs" are not mechanically designed, powered, and intended for land use, these cannot be registered with LTO.

All they do is cause traffic and various other accidents. The country is better off without them.
