Their flight was aborted when they couldn't land in Shanghai. The pilot reported poor visibility...

Last saturday, for some reason that I do not know, around 179 CHINESE tourists attacked the Pilot and First officer of a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Shanghai inside the Kalibo Airport. They held hostage the pilot for atleast 2 hours and resisted the police officers and airport security personnel who responded in the incident. the worst is, as far as I know, no criminal charges were filed against these tourists after a negotation was done. They are now accomodated in a hotel as their flight was rescheduled tomorrow...

The incident has to be put into context. The passengers were hysterical because of what happened to Flight MH370.

MH370 was like China's 9/11. Remember how people in the US beat up Muslims in the street afterwards? Same thing. People are edgy, panicky and scared ****less.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I'm a Chinoy but I won't condone such actions. These mainlanders really march to a different tune. Even when I deal with them they're shrewd. Just my observation.

    Different case yan, sir.

Kahit walang nangyari sa MH370, ganyan parin ang kanilang ugali. Been working/living with them for time and for the past 15 years, walang nabago sa kanila. Much worst pa nga nung nakakalabas na sila ng mainland. To them, the world is the same as the mainland they have lived for thousand years.

Some clarification. No hostage taking occured. No punching daw, just a language barrier to explain to the mainlanders what happened. And no hotel accomodation were initially offered to the mainlanders.

MANILA, Philippines— Two pilots of the Cebu Pacific flight 5J-074 have been confronted by an irate Chinese passenger for turning back to the Kalibo International Airport from Shanghai.

The incident happened early Saturday night soon after the jetliner landed at the airport.

Contrary to reports that a hostage taking happened at the airport involving two Filipino pilots and a Chinese national, police said Monday it was merely a heated argument that caught the attention of the authorities.

Police Officer 3 Nida Gregas, Aklan Police Provincial Office Public Information Office officer, told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview that tourist Xue We Lang was infuriated and yelled at Captain Johnny Pintoy and a certain Flight Officer Avila after their flight bound for Shanghai turned back to Kalibo due to bad weather.

Contrary to a radio flash report, Gregas said no mauling occurred.

Gregas said the Cebu Pacific flight was boarded by178 Chinese passengers. It left Kalibo early Saturday evening but due to zero visibility in China the pilots were left with no choice but to return to Kalibo. At about 11 p.m., Cebu Pacific flight 5J-074 touched down the Kalibo airport.

    This irked Xue.

“While the pilots were on their way to the terminal building at the airport, they were blocked by Xue,” Gregas said.

As they were intercepted by Xue, Gregas said the Chinese tourist, who was speaking in his native language, confronted the ‎pilots, apparently angry for turning back to the Philippines.

Police said Xue was also angry because allegedly no hotel accommodations were given to stranded passengers.

‎The Aklan police officer said what made the situation worse was the absence of an interpreter while the pilots were negotiating with Xue.

Led by Inspector Jayjay Domingo, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group‎ quickly went to the airport.

Gregas said the airport authorities held the pilots and the Chinese tourist for 30 minutes for questioning.

“Around 4 a.m. Sunday, the interpreter came and explained to Xue that they cannot travel to Shanghai with the current weather condition there for their safety,” the female police officer said.

‎Also, there were no formal complaints filed by the airlines against the Chinese tourist.

Xue was scheduled to fly back to Shanghai Monday afternoon as the case was settled amicably by both parties.

Pero sabi ng CAAP officer-in-charge, binugbog daw... Ano ba talaga???

(Updated 5:33 p.m.) Tensions rose at an airport in Kalibo, Aklan, last Saturday after irate Chinese passengers confronted two Cebu Pacific pilots following a misunderstanding that stemmed from the pilots' decision to return the flight to its place of origin.

“Pinababa yung mga pasahero sa pre-departure area, hindi siguro nagkaintindihan dahil walang interpreter kaya nagkagulo,” Cynthia Aspera, officer-in-charge of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in Kalibo, Aklan, told GMA News Online by phone on Monday.

Aspera said the pilots — Captain Johnny Tinto and Richard Avilla — did not file a complaint against the passengers as they were able to reach a settlement.

In an incident report submitted by Aspera to CAAP Director General William Hotckiss on Monday, she said a certain Xue Weilang was brought to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group office for questioning.

“They reached for settlement and the pilots did not file any formal complaint,” she said in the report.

The Cebu Pacific Flight 5J074 to Shanghai, China, will depart Kalibo International Airport at 6:50 p.m., March 31.

Aspera said on March 28, the flight to China left Kalibo at 4:45 p.m., but due to bad weather in China, it was diverted to Manila at 7:48 p.m. The pilots waited for further notice but there was no improvement in the weather.

She said there were 179 Chinese passengers in the flight.

“Hindi nakadiretso dahil sa weather problem kaya bumalik sa Manila yung eroplano. Pero sinabihan yung mga piloto na kailangan sa place of origin pumunta kaya bumalik sila sa Kalibo,” Aspera said.

She said it is a standard operating procedure for a cancelled flight to return to the point of origin when it is not safe to go to its destination.

“Masama ang panahon kaya para safe ay ibinalik sila, sa gutom na rin siguro at sa pagod, gusto nang makauwi ng mga pasahero kaya nagkagulo-gulo na,” Aspera said.

In the incident report, she said the flight departed Manila at 11:12 p.m and arrived at Kalibo at 11:59 p.m.

Aspera said the Chinese passengers stayed at the departure area.

“At around 3 a.m., they saw Capt. Tinto and co-pilot Richard Avilla. Passengers of the said flight surrounded and blocked the two pilots refraining them to enter the terminal building. They are demanding for free accommodation,” she said in the incident report.

In a phone interview with GMA News Online, Aspera said, “Nakita nila sa arrival yung mga piloto, pinuntahan nila, sinuntok at sinampal. Hinawakan nila yung piloto para hindi makaalis.”

Aspera's incident report did not mention any physical abuse.

Aspera also said she was not aware how many passengers were involved in the incident.

She said airport security personnel and the Philippine National Police Aviation Group responded to the incident.

    Cebu Pacific has yet to reply to the queries from GMA News Online. — KBK, GMA News;

nakupo!!! may karapatang magalit ang mga pasahero dahil walang accomodation. nagkataong nasanay lang tayo sa kabastusan ng cebu pacific. grabe ang customer service ng cebpac, super walang kwenta. i dont mind shelling out few hundreds or even thousand pesos in exchange for a better, more humane service. mura nga, bastos naman.
