Prominent doctor killed in predawn accident on Edsa
    10/21/2008 | 05:11 AM

MANILA, Philippines - A prominent medical doctor was charred when his car burst into flames after it was hit from behind by one of two racing buses on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) before dawn Tuesday.

The doctor's name would be withheld until his family shall have been informed of the incident.

Radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported that the accident occurred at the northbound portion of Edsa near the Santolan Station of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT).

The report also said that the passenger of the doctor was hurt and was rushed to a hospital.

"Nagkakarerahan ang bus at sumalpok sa kotse, nagkaroon ng triple collision (The buses were racing and one of them hit the car. There was a triple collision)," said a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority aide who saw the incident.

Police are now looking for a bus driver initially identified only as Madrid.

The victim was driving his old-model Mercedes Benz sedan (NFH-602) when a rushing bus hit the car from behind.

Rescue workers managed to rush a female passenger on the sedan to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC).

Also rushed to the EAMC was a bus conductor and a bus passenger, the report said.

Initial investigation showed the Mercedes Benz stopped behind a "Commuters Bus Line" bus when two racing buses hit the sedan from behind, causing the sedan to burst into flames.

Manhunt on for bus driver in deadly EDSA accident
    10/21/2008 | 08:52 AM

MANILA, Philippines - A full manhunt operation is now underway for the arrest of a bus driver believed to have caused a predawn road accident that killed at one person and injured at least three others Tuesday.

Radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported that Quezon City traffic enforcement head Superintendent Norberto Babagay formed a team to track down the bus driver who was initially identified as Margarito Madrid.

Witnesses said Madrid was last seen escaping from the Joanna Jess bus after the incident, wiggling out through the bus window.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has also started its investigation into the incident, to see how the Mercedes Benz sedan of fatality Francisco Sarabia caught fire.

Sarabia was charred inside the car after a passenger bus involved in a race with another passenger bus hit it from behind.

His passenger, Henny Garcia, was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) but was transferred to the St. Luke's Medical Center.

The incident occurred along the northbound part of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) at 3:30 a.m.

Injured were conductor Salvador de Guzman, 44, of Joanna Jess bus; Ligaya de Guzman; and another bus conductor identified as Laurentino Bedino.

Curiously is Dr Francisco Sarabia connected to the optical shop chain with the same name?

one of the reasons why takot ako sa edsa madaling araw, at pag yung kia dala ko, di agad kasi makaalis,e...

hirap kasi sa mga city bus drivers, natuto lang magdrive, nagkalisensya na. walang mga alam sa traffic rules kung other than maging gupang sa pasahero!

thats why the yellow lane never really implemented. kasi takot ang autoridad i implement.. ngayon may MRT na.. dont understand the concept na bakit di kaya nila mag-stay sa yellow lane. maswerte nga pilipinas e 2-lane ang yellow sa iba 1 lang lang.

condolence nalang sa family ng namatayan. and hope makonsesya yung driver.

another accident caused by stupid bus drivers
