Just this afternoon. Metro Rescue running code 3 (lights and siren) on a medical call. Jeep suddenly turns left into the unit. Damage is evident. Driver and his operator claim that unit did not have emergency lights and sirens on and just turned them on after the crash. Eyewitnesses in the area say otherwise. And even without lights and sirens, any idiot should check his surroundings before turning. What if a pedestrian or cyclist was there? Operator agrees to pay for the damages (on the promise that we will not kill him ). But still, having the ambulance sidelined means we cannot serve the area we cater to for the duration of the repair (we don't have a back up volunteer unit).

Here's another one. Unit is again running code 3. Traffic enforcers halt other vehicles and motion it to counterflow. A taxi suddenly crosses the intersection. T-bones the unit at the patient compartment (with a patient on board). Again, taxi claims not t
o hear the sirens despite the ambulance unit using a very powerful Whelen unit.

Last one for the day. Tricycle on the right side of road, suddenly makes a u-turn just when the ambulance is passing through. Trike flies off, hits an innocent motor bike rider. Both escape injuries. The trike driver seems aggressive. Passing cops just remind him not to cross the path of an emergency vehicle. As usual, walang pambayad.

Ganyan talaga mga yan. Jeepney & taxi drivers just use the excuse of denying of seeing or hearing. Honestly, if they cannot see or hear an ambulance with it's siren and blinkers, they should be given an automatic fail on their medical test right on the spot and their driver's licenses revoked as well.

and what pattern do we see here? PUVs

iba talaga dito. pag may dumadaan na emergency vehicle, walang tumitigil. pag ganyan dapat pull aside then full stop. no matter where the vehicle is coming from or going, vehicles from both ways should stop. not move aside the emergency vehicle.

GH's comment says it all. Nuff said. :D

Sana nga sa statement pa lang nilang yun, revoke agad lisensya at wag ng issuehan pa ng bago.
