While the windshield gangs are infuriating, there is no law stating that it is illegal to clean a vehicle without permission.

There is a law, however, against brandishing a firearm in public and pointing it at people... and a law against running people over.

Kung soapy windshield lang ang problema at tinutukan na ng baril, paano kung na-cut-off mo yung gagong yan?

Think about it, people. Assholes like that are the reason poor people hate us car-owners.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

^ Yeah, it's wrong to point a gun but reading about someone doing what a lot of us devilishly give thought about whenever we're harassed by those hardened street thugs (or dangerously cut off by a bus running at high speed on EDSA)... its simply hard to wipe that grin off. :D

And being fresh from seeing kids stealing from a taxi in front of me in EDSA traffic recently, it just seems to be karma working at those who are becoming very brazen in harassing citizens. Maybe the Benz guy will get his dessert just as well? We'll never know. Possibly politico yan or "connected" businessman. Maybe we can check with CATS Motors for an E Class needing some detailing from scratches.

Certainly practical points, niky. But I probably would have done the same as the Merc if I see a Scotch-Brite being pointed at my car. I believe this is the reason on why people cheer for the Merc - they're THAT frustrated. It's much like a scenario where you encounter a person everyday would "offer" to clean my lawn or else he'll vandalize my surrounding perimeter. By all means, this is extortion - which is defined by law as "committed by obtaining property (or cash) from another without his consent, induced by wrongful use of fear." and if they ditch their "unwanted services", they in-turn are termed as "medicants" wherein the giving of alms is actually a criminal liability (the anti-beggars law).

So from my perspective, they're already breaking the law just trying to ply the streets. So I'll just stick to one phrase: "Don't bother me and I won't bother you". I won't care if the poor thinks poorly of the rich, personally I think that's being an ingrate. Who's paying taxes? We are. People are supposed to fend off for themselves, I don't advocate socialism. As Roosevelt has said, "capitalism is unequal divided riches but socialism is equally divided poverty".

It was quite clear, but this is a forum with all sorts of people and there are others who fell in line, some more than once. Where's the Sarcasmgasm guy? Free seminar?

I'm back on the fence about the incident just because of Mr. 60wpm.

I was referring to the post of muse that the windshield gang have every right to hit the merc because of poverty.

Actually both are true... and it's reflective of how both sides in that little tiff are in the wrong.

The washers are too poor to sue, and and too small time for the authorities to bother controlling. I'm appalled when I pass by some parts of the Metro on sundays and there are kids carrying knives harrassing motorists or throwing rocks at them.

The rich people are too big-time to worry about being caught out with a gun without a permit-to-carry. They can get away with throwing their weight around, and the only time the law gets serious is when they actually kill you. Threaten you? No problem. Beat you up in the middle of the road? No problem. Kill you? Ah... WE ARE VERY SERIOUS ABOUT UNCONTROLLED FIREARMS my ass.

I believe in the opposite. Those who are jobless and poor have too much time in their hands while the rich people are too busy with their business or work that they don't want to be bothered with cases

Quirino Avenue, the stretch south of Malacanang. Throwing rocks, bottles and whatnot... And some kid came up to beg at my window with an open Swiss army knife.

That was a sarcastic post by muse

I'm pretty serious about what I said though - more people are sent to jail for less grave crimes such as robbery of a few thousand pesos, but I've yet to see any corrupt official or dirty businessman to serve a serious sentence for stealing with the nation's funds.

Heck, even the mass murder ordered by the Ampatuans remains hanging in the courts, even if the verdict should be blatantly obvious.

This society is filled with people who simply dismiss the poor as scum of the nation that do nothing beneficial without even taking into consideration the system that continually keeps them there, that promotes social injustice.

I admit I thought the same way - I hated the squatters that lived right across our school. But I was 13 then. It's pretty simplistic to think that the poor are poor because of their own actions. Ano yun, hindi sila umuunlad kasi hindi sila nagsisipag? What about the fact that it takes an extreme amount of luck to even have the opportunity to get a good education and a good job if you're from the slums?

It's true that some of them really bask in their misery and expect everyone to give alms to them, but believe me, a lot have tried to have better lives but are ultimately stuck in the bottom throngs of society. It's also true that some of them have awful personalities and are really wicked in their ways, but then, so are the despicable people who run the system that keeps them that way.
