Four people were killed while 14 others were seriously injured in a string of vehicular accidents at the viaduct of the North Luzon Expressway at 1:45 a.m. on Monday, reports from the police and the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC) said.

Chief Insp. Marcelo Dayag, Apalit police chief, said the smashups occurred when a dump truck hit the rear of a cargo truck parked along the northbound lane of Km 53 at the viaduct's Barangay San Juan section.

A Five Star passenger bus, in turn, crashed into the rear of the dump truck, Dayag said.

The reports identified the fatalities as Emelito Camba, the dump truck driver; Rosalio Soliman, the bus driver; and passengers Roberto Braganza of Urdaneta City and Geraline Cruz of Urbiztondo, both of Pangasinan.

According to Dayag, the cargo truck driver, identified as Rolando Patrana, parked his vehicle because it experienced mechanical trouble.

The incident would have been prevented had the PNCC's highway patrol helped Patrana haul his truck out of the viaduct where the shoulders are narrow, a source said.

The 14 injured passengers were taken to the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Hospital in the City of San Fernando. They were being treated for serious injuries, Dayag said.

It was the first major vehicular accident at the viaduct this year, reports said.

as usual, shoulder lanes are used for overtaking. grabe naman yan. Tama si Odell, pag may bus na tumabi sayo, feeling mo talaga babagsakan ka or biglang tataob. Ang alam ko from time to time nag papatrol ang PNCC police dyan.

sabi na nga bat yung NLEX e naghihintay lang ng aksidente. oks sana at nilawakan nila at pinaganda. pero mapapansin nyo na sobrang kitid ng emergency lane. at saka bakit nawalan ng emergency lane sa gitna? pano kung nasa inner lane ka at doon ka inabutan ng engine problem or worse.. tire puncture? pano ka ngayon babalik dun sa other lane papuntang emergency lane? that's a 4 lane crossover. anyways.. sana ay pag-isipan naman nila yan.

hmm, siguro wala ding EWD yung truck, ang dalas kong makakita ng stalled vehicles sa SLEX na walang EWD, or kung meron man di alam gamitin

pag nandyan ako sa NLEX talaga mabilis ang takbo, pero never as in kahit isang beses na gumamit ako ng shoulder, naalala ko lang kasi yung sa SLEX ako before may nakita ako pag labas niya sa shoulder eh meron pala yung plastic na divider yung orange, pero sa NLEX concrete un sa kanila eh hehehe

tsaka isa pa, pwede namang magpreno nalang pag wala nang space, huwag nalang talaga gamitin ang shoulder. wheewww kakadaan ko lang dyan nung sunday paekis ekis lagi kasi daming construction pa rin na ginagawa, from 4 lanes nagiging 2 lanes.

oh oo nga pala alin ang viaduct? un sobrang habang bridge? hehe tnx
