traffic management is a science. computed po yan depending on the intersection kung gano katagal ang green at red. ang may standard ay yung transition from green to yellow to red.

sa ibang bansa they use heat sensors para malaman kung dapat nang i switch ang traffic light from one lane to the next. dati nag-experiment sila nyan dito pero di gumana, kase lahat ng intersection traffic. nalilito lang yung computer.

Actually, almost all traffic lights of Metro Manila ay naka START system na (don't know what that means). Basta it is also the traffic light system used in most of Australia. Meron silang kinabit na mga sensors under the road to monitor which lane have more traffic volume, yung ang i-priority. Ang problema, yung mga jeep, kahit GO na, naka STOP pa rin sila waiting for passengers. Kaya nalilito yung computer.

Also, hindi naman standard yung 30sec na GO, then 30sec na STOP. It depends sa traffic history nung intersection kung aling lanes ang mas kelangan ng longer period of green light or red light. Also, almost always, major or wider roads will tend to have a longer green light than minor roads.

sa tingin ko most, if not all, stop lights in metro manila already have sensors.

It's not always sensors. Some stoplights are actually on a "schedule". The one at Festival Mall does standard time in the morning, then, in the evening (at about 9pm), it's switched to "night mode".

Meaning, if you're exiting the mall, you have exactly five seconds to respond to the stoplight after it turns green. When you've got a dozen cars piled behind one guy who doesn't know this (and who gets stuck as the light before the poor idiot can put the car in gear....), you have a lot of horn-blowing and cursing happening.

I've seen other lights that enter "night mode", too, making the window for the crossing road shorter, automatically, regardless of volume.

I've seen enforcers fiddle with the timing of the lights, disable them, make them faster and turn them off. At major "kotong" points, this becomes a good modus operandi. A few years ago, they'd programmed the Ortigas-C5 stoplight to flash yellow very briefly (about three to five seconds) before going red. Now this is an intersection crossing six to eight lanes of road... with five enforcers waiting at the other side.

No siree... not suspicious at all. :hysterical:

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
