our delivery truck was apprehended along a. bonifacio ave. apparently for the violation of the smoke belching law. nung pina emission test yung truck dito since ipapa-register na rin, pasado naman. i asked the local LTO here kung bakit hinuli sa manila yung truck ko e pasado naman sa emission test dito. ang sagot sa akin, hindi daw naniniwala yung mga yun sa mga emission testing centers. pucha, e nagsasayang lang pala tayo ng P300.00 per year para sa wala!

Our dumptruck drivers report that these apprehensions by anti-smoke belching officers on the road catches those that emits a reasonable amount of visible black smoke.

Which brings this question: Is a black smoke emitted by a vehicle through its muffler enough to say that a vehicle is actually smoke-belching?

And in your case sir Boybi, if your delivery truck was caught and in a condition wherein it's not commiting such noticeable smoke, then this is what I believe in: it's either for kotong, your driver made it up, or during the emission test there was some kind of an "offer". The "make-up story" though could be eliminated if you were there when it was apprehended or a violation ticket was given to your driver. So you're down to 2 possibilities. Just my opinion sir.

Even USDM diesel vehicles will emit black smoke. May tolerance range talaga for that lalo na kung wala pa sa ideal conditions yung sasakyan (e.g. on wide open throttle, in process of shifting, etc.)

Random emission testing by the roadside is just another kotong method. I don't care if ABS-CBN glorifies these tailpipe sniffers and exalts them as heroes.

You'd never see a smoke belching dumptruck unless you're at it's right or left side. Nandun kasi tambucho. Although I must agree na Govt. maintained dumptrucks lack maintenance. One provincial mayor bought a truck and allowed us to handle it for half a year. It was well-maintained by us, I'm sure it was worth it asking as to maintain it. It also earned a significant amount of earnings thanks to our kind-hearted drivers (In trucking, you lose if your drivers just drive and not care for what they handle). But after half a year, he took it from our care, paid us our management fee, and it's just been 3 months pero ung dumptruck? Laspag na. Tailgate, dumpbox, and the front of the truck just filled with damages ranging from minor to mid. Of 10 original rims which never cracked when it was under our care, only 4 remained. The other 6 cracked and needed replacement. We gave them one of our driver and the driver's report to us? Maintainance isn't funded too much.

See? Galeng no?

Unlike gasoline engines which the driver throttles in more air, a diesel throttles fuel. Put in too much fuel and you run rich which can result in black smoke.

moral of the story -- have a tune-up first before going to emission centers (change oil, change plugs, clean carb, adjust timing).
