I almost figured in an accident last Saturday around 8:20PM
at the intersection of Fifth ave. and Mckinley Road in Makati
due to unusual darkness caused by shut-off street and traffic
lights.
The traffic enforcer manning the intersection wasn't wearing
reflectorized gloves nor using a "star-wars" wand. I only noticed
him when I was already well inside the intersection and I had to
swerve and brake hard to avoid him and some cars
coming from Forbes.
so and dilim talaga sa area. Naka blue pa yung enforcer and medyo
egoy so hindi mo talaga mapapansin kaagad.
This is a perfect example of our local authorities lacking
common sense. Sure its okay to observe Earth Hour wherein electricity
is shut-off every night at 8 to 9PM but this should be limited only
to residential and commercial establishments like bars and restos
and only on a voluntary basis. But please don't include street
and traffic lights as this compromises public safety.
I was in C-5 going up the ramp to Market!Market! on that night
and all the intersections I passed at The Fort had "blinking"
traffic lights and very dark streets.
Calling on Mayors Binay and Peewee Trinidad (I learned he's also
shutting off street lights on the Pasay portion of Roxas Blvd.
during Earth Hour every night).
worthy causes like global-warming awareness but not at the
expense of public safety!
common sense!

Kelangan nga nila ng common sense.
I was just thinking about the horrors of trippers who would take earth hour too seriously, and drive at night without any headlights.

Alam mo kasi ang pinoy pag gumaya mas matindi pa!
OK lang for Australia and other developed countries to observe
Earth Hour by shutting off everything including street and traffic lights
kasi yung mga intersections nila manned by cops wearing complete
reflectorized gear, plus maingat mga motorista nila. Also their streets are not so crime-ridden so kahit patayin ang ilaw sa lansangan ng 1 hour, wala masyadong krimen.
sitwasyon kung walang street and traffic lights. Also, mag lilitawan
na parang anay out of the woodwork ang mga holdupper and agaw-

IMO - Earth Hour is pretty much stupid really... no offense to the organizers and supporters but this thread pretty much shows the consequences of a pretty lame gesture to "save the Earth".
They should just focus on the real environmental issues at hand (like garbage segregation, proper vehicle use, industrial waste dumping, etc.).
