Bakit yung driver lang? Mas malaking kasalanan yung may ari ng truck mismo! Puro kita lang ang iniisip! Kawawa lang yung driver dahil siya yung sumalo ng kagagaguhan ng amo niya.I don't think we have to generalize... or for the part of it, no one has to.that the owner of the truck prioritizes profit more than investing on a safe truck.
Here's our operating procedure in our trucking business:
1. The truck driver reports every morning about his expenses and possible truck parts that need be replaced. From tire caps to bulbs up to braking, torque rod, etc. This is to ensure our trucks are running in safe condition.
2. In case of sudden truck breakdown (like naputulan ng moelye), it's automatic, TRIPS ARE CANCELLED. An order is an order at wala pa naman kaming driver na sumubok lumabag dahil ayaw rin naman nilang matanggal. Pinapatabi na lang namin sa safe na lugar at pupuntahan namin ASAP regardless if madaling araw o tanghaling tapat na.
3. Two (2) experience truck drivers per truck. STRICT RULE: Tulog ang isa habang nagmamaneho ang isa. Pag inaantok na ung nagmamaneho, gisingin ung natutulog at palit sila.
4. Wage is fair. Di namin tinitipid ang driver sa sahod, they deserve it. They work well, we pay them well. Naka-20T sila more or less a month samen. Plus, this removes the thought of kickbacking from their minds.
We keep our cool as owners. Safety is our top priority. Dahil pag may bumigay at magkaaksidente, di lang kami ang damay, pati driver at ung mababangga kasali. Kami sasagot nun which is obviously more expensive than keeping our trucks in good running condition.
7. All income and expenses are accounted for.
Sadly, all your points are considered and factual. Pero, you should try to relate.
Sensya na if I can't side with one point only. There are factors in this case and to generalize does not really explain things out IMO. Peace to all =D

tsk tsk, the trucks on our roads are all rolling coffins, so with our jeeps, jeepneys, tricycles. Blame in on our system, were we have such a low regard for safety on the road.![]()

you are right, it has got to have something to do with the system.
ironically, lahat yata ng involved sa accident na ito ay rolling coffins: dump truck, owner jeep, jeepney, motorcycle and another truck that carries water rationing.Originally Posted by Benji_DCP

RIP to those who died a senseless death...
Actually the moment their drivers fall asleep and crash, they're the ones at a cost disadvantage. We don't treat our trucking as our primary source of income to avoid getting frustrated over continouos maintenance expenses though we still give it utmost attention DAILY. We even provide at PhP 1000.00 or more, lower than the prices of other trucking companies. It's all down to the driver's discipline (can follow instructions, etc.)naman and the owner's foresight (how he sees what may and what could happen) on things.it makes responsible truck owners like batang_raon14 at a cost disadvantage over those reckless owners that indulge in maintenance short cuts and cheap untrained truck drivers.
Marami talagang road hazards sa daan natin, but we just have to bare with it till the system goes for a massive change. If it DOES head for a massive change that is. PLUS, even up to now the labor force isn't doing anything much in wage increase and the LTO or LTFRB has failed for several years to implement banning of vehicles not running on working condition.
Poverty+non-implementation of the law=CHAOS. just my .02

nung truck driver, siguro naiwasan nyang ganoon kalaking aksidente.

Any problem outside wear & tear, sila babayad. Kahit konting gasgas sa bumper, may 2 hour seminar + written explanation, on top of the bayad.
If anyone reports them speeding, written uli. If sa weekly inspection may kalbong tires or other worn items unreplaced, write... Drivers who allow overloading, write uli... Kung talagang tigas ulo, required 2 page essay... Very effective po itong written explanation in lowering repair & maintenance costs as well as avoiding accidents. In exchange, ganda sweldo nila.
Safety does not primarily rely on seatbelts. Or airbags. Or crumple zones and whatnot. For a vehicle to be safe, first it must work. What does that mean? Well, a vehicle has a few parts that must be present for a vehicle to function:
-Engine and drivetrain, which makes it go.
-Brakes, which makes it stop.
-Steering, which points the vehicle to where it should be going.
-Wheels/tires, which connects the above to the road and make them work.
-Some sort of chassis and/or bodywork to hold the above together.
-And crucially, the driver, which will be in charge of the engine, drivetrain, brakes, and steering.
If any of the above are not in top condition, you have an unsafe/unroadworthy vehicle, and shouldn't be running. Obviously a car that has a dead engine won't run, but an engine that dies at cruising speed is EXTREMELY dangerous to the driver and other motorists.
I guess they consider school service vehicles as 'for hire', since parents pay the owner/operator to ferry their children to and from school.Originally Posted by theveed

So long as people use being "poor" as an excuse not to enforce health & safety laws these events will always happen.
1. Defensive driving.
2. Safety Equipment.
3. Road-legal (by Western standards) rides
4. Proper (by Western standards) driving training
5. Sober & alert drivers.
6. Proper (by Western standars) roads & signs
7. Traffic enforces interested in fully implementing road rules to all drivers with no bias or exceptions.
Sa huli ang pagsisisi.
