'Cult' Members Creates Chaos in Already Heavy EDSA Traffic

Traffic was stalled along EDSA Saturday afternoon when members of a "cult" tried to stop traffic, saying they are giving away P1 million, ABS-CBN News learned.

The traffic jam occurred at around 1 p.m. along the thoroughfare's southbound lane, extending from Mandaluyong to Makati, correspondent Zen Hernandez reported.

In the Magallanes area, nine vehicles were stalled after 15 men released air from the vehicles' wheels.

"Kasi kanina pinara ho kami. Sabi nila may bayad itong P1 milyon sa kanila. Makisama daw kami at ibaba daw ang pasahero," said Alexander Bulusan, a bus conductor.

(They stopped us. They said they were going to be paid P1 million. They asked us to cooperate and let our passengers out.)

According to the group's spokesperson, they deliberately stopped traffic so that they will be able to receive P1 million.

(Our aim was to stop all vehicles so that there will be a complete stop on all movement and the savior of poverty and lawlessness will appear. Before they leave they will receive the promised P1 million for every Filipino to remove all Filipinos from poverty and to guarantee that the Philippines would be the richest in the whole world.)

When asked where the money will come from, the spokesperson said that the money will come from the National Treasury.

One was reported to have said a certain Salvador de Corazon would be giving the P1 million.

However, one of the members said they did not know that the group will be stopping traffic.

(We joined because we would like to receive money to get out of poverty.)

Later, traffic in both northbound and southbound lanes of the Kamuning flyover stood still when members of the same group blocked traffic. None of the culprits were apprehended.

Last week, around 5,000 members of the said group flocked to the Quirino Grandstand after they were promised to be given P100,000 each. No money was actually given.

Police said the group could face charges of alarm and scandal for the incident.

It's the same group whose members were stranded at the Rizal Park grounds, while waiting for their supposed 1M-peso giveaways each.

In wreaking havoc on city traffic, looks like they've taken their cue from BATAS party-list.
