This isn't a contest who has the most Iresponsible/Reckless drivers. This is about advocating safe and responsible driving. Yup tama ka madaming mga di qualified na maging truck driver at nagmamaneho ng truck a real big risk to other motorists lalo na sa madaling araw.

i got this from the MCP website. i have seen a lot of tips like these around the net and they help a lot.

i'm posting it here so tsikoteers can have an idea of the precautions that motorcycle riders normally take, emphasis on the normally.

now as to whether most riders follow these is another thing altogether hehehe

10 Ways to Be Safe on a Motorcycle

1.) Assume Drivers Can't See You: Ride assuming that you and your motorcycle are totally invisible to motorists. That means you must never assume that drivers can see you. The odds are, they can't so believe it yourself and always have an "out" for dangerous traffic situations.

2.) Maintain Safe Spacing: Leave plenty of space in front and back and to the sides from all other vehicles. Be an island. Stay away from traffic as much as possible. This gives you more visibility and more time to react to situations.

3.) Anticipate Trouble: Anticipate trouble situations and know what to do when you see them. Analyze what vehicles are doing and try to predict the outcome. Then make sure you're ready to avoid a bad traffic situation.

4.) Beware of Oncoming Left Turners: Beware of oncoming motorists turning left in front of you at intersections. This is the leading cause of death of motorcycle riders. I'm deadly serious here. I have personally lost many friends to this accident. If you only remember one tip here, let it be this one. Slow down before you enter an intersection. Have an escape route planned. Stay visible. Don't travel too close to cars in front of you. Position your bike so it can be seen by the left turner. Eye contact is not enough.

5.) Ride Your Own Ride: Don't try to keep up with your friends who may be more experienced. Know your personal limits. Ride your own ride.

6.) Watch Out for Curves: Beware of taking curves that you can't see around. A parked truck or a patch of sand may be awaiting you.

7.) Don't Give In to Road Rage: Do not give in to road rage and try to "get even" with another rider or motorist. If you follow these tips, most likely you won't fall victim to road rage. It's better to calm down, slow down, and collect your thoughts first. Then continue on and enjoy the ride. That's what we're all out there for in the first place.

8.) Don't allow Tailgating: If someone is tailgating you, either speed up to open more space or pull over and let them pass. Life is too short. Remember that a bike can stop faster than a car so you don't want a truck on your tail when you find yourself trying to brake to avoid an accident. Also, don't tailgate the vehicle in front of you. Oncoming drivers can't see you.

9.) Don't Be Blinded by Sunglare: Beware of riding your motorcycle into sun glare. All it takes is turning a corner and finding the sun either directly in your face or passing straight through your windshield. Some helmets have shields to block the sun. Face shields help somewhat. But sometimes you just find yourself blinded by the light. Slow down, pull over, shield your eyes and look for a way to change direction.

10.) Avoid Riding at Night: Avoid riding at night, especially late Saturday night and early Sunday when drunken drivers may be on the road. It goes without saying that you shouldn't drink and ride. Going bar hopping? Leave the bike at home and find a designated driver.

I am a "big bike fanatic", and I AGREE with what alot of you are saying. Sadly, there are alot of idiots out there with big bikes/scooters, na kala mo kung sino kung mag ride...AND they are making us responsible riders look really-really bad!
Maybe you guys (car enthusiasts) feel the same way about other drivers who drive like maniacs?

When we ride on weekends, we ride as a "unit", so other people on the road can see/hear us coming. When we pass, we politely give a honk-honk and blink our lights, and then pass. There is a time (playtime) when the "leader" of the group lets us...um...play Then it's 200++kph bliss!!!! But this only happens when the roads are clear and wide-wide open (NLEX or Star toll). Let's face it some of us, bikers and drivers, love to make "hataw" once in a while. Fast but as safe as possible...

Personally, I try to ride just a wee bit faster on the roads than other vehicles, kase naka-katakot dumikit sa mga truck eh. Plus, with all our safety gear (jackets, helmets, gloves...etc) masyadong mainit if we stop moving or move to slowly.

This has to be the most interesting and informative thread that I have ever read...on any site! Maybe we can all just try to respect each others passion/choices. Maybe we can keep this thread going, para we can learn from each other. Malay mo maging mag kaibigan pa tayo lahat

    God Bless!

For me, the slower vehicle should always give way to faster moving traffic. That rule applies whether I'm on the scooter or in the Pajero. I always yield to faster vehicles. So when I'm in the position wherein I'm the faster vehicle, I politely tap my horn and hit my flash-to-pass on whatever vehicle is in front of me to signify my intention to pass. And yes, it does work at times. But like BG, I've also had my share of dagger looks.

My last encounter with a biker was early this year. I was in the 300SD sitting in traffic. This bike tries to cram himself between me and the motorist to my right. In doing so, he hit the flag attachment (a flag pole on the right front corner beside the turn signal) of my vehicle. But he just forced his way through. Thankfully, the attachment sprung back into the correct alignment afterwards. I alighted from my vehicle and asked him why he did that. Damn guy just gave me a blank stare. Ialso asked him why he didn't even try to apologize for what he did. Again another blank stare. The guy must be a retard or something. I really wanted to push him off his bike [and maybe run him over too]. But I was in uniform and didn't want anymore hassle.

Another encounter: In the province, when the national highway is moving slowly (e.g. heavy traffic), the trikes and scooter boys in our area [as well as other smaller vehicles that could fit] would use the shoulder to overtake us who are at the correct lane. But the shoulder also has its share of obstructions and those on the shoulder try to force their way in on my lane. The biker would even kick their legs high up in the air [yeah, leg stops Pajero, that would make a good headline if that happened]. The situation was so bad [and potentially dangerous] I had to radio for another vehicle to drive ever so slowly on the f*cking shoulder behind me so that these assholes wouldn't force their way on me.

Kahit na anong sabihin ninyo, naka cage man kayo or naka cub, basta ang importante defensive riding.

I didn't mean it in a "bad way" when I asked kung pano ang defensive riding for motorcycles. I really want to know. Para siguro I can differenciate responsible riding on the road. TIA.
It's almost the same for defensive driving ng cars..general rule lang eh UMIWAS SA MGA PASAWAY..

Yakee!

Sir, pano kung nde namen alam? hehehe

nice post morissey_05. I'd take that as a defensive riding for MCs. and some are also applicable to cagers.

teka lang, bat andaming nakaka get away na riders with no helmets? i thought hinuhuli pag ganun?

Just last night along Mc Arthur highway...

A scooter squeezed between me and the incoming traffic... the traffic flow was already fast (60kph) but he still insisted and was able to overtake me... A few kilometers after, I was able to pass him. What happened? He got hit by a jeepney.

A few kilometers ahead again... I braked to a full stop to let a lady cross. But this dumbass scooter rider on my right insisted on going ahead while the pedestrian was already crossing and slightly clipped the lady.

*mazdamazda, kanya-kanya lang talaga ng riding style yan. ndi ako santo para sabihin na ndi ko rin ginagawa minsan yan. kahit naka cage ako, minsan, nag ka-counterflow din ako(my bad). no offense, pero what's the point para i-post mo pa dito yan. imho, pagsisimulan lang yan ng panibagong issue. bottomline is, aminado naman lahat na me mga badeggs mapa motor man o cage devah? let's just stop this and move on to a more friendly and healthy discussion. like kung pano natin i-educate ang kapwa natin drivers/riders on how to deal with each others on the road.

    just my 2 cents.

peace out and have a nice day

pre... just pointing out the rotten eggs in the basket (that is why we have a goon squad forum). just pointing out the dangers of lane splitting when traffic is already light. IMO, lanesplitting is kinda acceptable when traffic is at a standstill or is slow - provided that the speed isn't too fast.

just like this morning... a few scooters were just following me in EDSA while the traffic flow was good... but when it literally stopped, I just let them pass in between the lanes.

if you can see the other posts in the goodsquad forum... marami rin akong na post about other cagers (with pics pa... hahaha).

bicycles at south super highway? hahaha whats new? Have you read about the Pedicab getting hit by a car in the goon squad forum?

There will be always people who will do wreckless things regardless of what they ride.

sir, kahit kaming naka motor ay nadadali rin ng mga scooters/bicycles/bigbikes. If I had a peso for every time another bike almost got me killed...I'd be rich!
Like this one time, I was on a 150cc vespa, and was behind another scooter....nag flash na ako ng lights, nag "beep-beep" na ako ( just to signal na I was gonna overtake)...pero right when I was about to pass--BIGLANG NAG U TURN!!!! Dude, semplang ako!

Regarding the "counter-flow" thing...I'm medyo guilty of that too But in my defence, I only do it pag sobrang bagal na ng traffic.
