This is the latest news of extortion of the customs people whether they be filipino or chinese businessmen in binondo..

This happening started last friday when customs people back up by armed policemen raided the warehouse stall at Juan Luna Plaza located at corner of Meicis and Juan Luna st in Binondo, very near 168 malls which was raided also more than a year ago.

They force open those warehouse stall to check from the tenants if they have paid proper taxes from customs etc..

those who cannot produce proper receipts/ document to ascertain that their inventory in their warehouse stalls were not smuggled goods are being extorted to produce hughe sum of money or else their stocks will be confiscated.

Latest news i got was just this afternoon, all warehouse stallowners agreed and dole out P15M COLD CASH for those who raided them last week...

This is the same scheme on what had happened to 168 mall early last year..

This is so far very discouraging since they must do their job from the very beginning in the port of entry rather than having double jeopardy applied to this hapless hard working businessman, eking out a living to survive this times of firerce business competition..

I once asked my lawyer (Atenean) what i can do to avoid taxes while we were discussing about setting up companies.

He simply told me: It's more economical to comply.

You see, if you follow the law, nothing can be used against you. It will be your shield against these extortionists.

Errrr... if they paid the proper taxes / duties at the time of importation then they wouldn't have this problem.

Plus, they are now condoning corruption by bribing government officials just so they can continue doing business... with that the never ending cycle of corruption continues.

    :tumbleweed:

Actually the point is the customs people should confiscate it. period..... Not extort money from the stall owners... That's the point....

^^^ Then I guess the stall owners shouldn't come across. Kasi if they do, for sure, yung mga buwitre sa Customs, BIR and police/NBI will see them as milking cows.

On the part of the stallholders, they should also conduct business legally. It takes two to tango.

Pero, on the other hand, may mga corrupt-to-the-bone naman kasing government officials na kahit legal naman ang business mo, kokotongan ka pa rin. Kasuhan mo man, kahit in flagrante delicto pa, dahil malakas sa mga nasa puwesto, hindi rin uusad ang kaso. Tapos babalikan ka pa. You should hear the stories of complainants na na-dismiss na nga yung mga bugok na pulis ng Napolcom, nakapag-reapply pa for reinstatement, tapos hinaharass ngayon yung mga nagsumbong.

So saan ka nga naman lalagay?

sorry but i have to say this ... maski tama ang bayad mo sa customs complete with papers, etc, tingin mo ba hindi ka rin kokotongan ng mga yan, in other words, kung wala sila makita na mali sa papers mo, di ka kaya pahirapan nila in other ways....

AS I HAVE MENTIONED THE POINT HERE IS EXTORTION... yun lang.... di yun kung nagbayad sila ng tama o mali, at aking uulitin kung walang binayad na customs, di confiscate na lang , bakit kelangan pang mag-extort ng money from stall owners? It's as simple as that... kung di ganyan ang gagawin nila, eh di paulit-ulit na cycle lang itong mga raid na ito.... Tingnan mo sa developed countries, meron ba ganyan problem sa business nila, wala onli in the Philippines... I hope AGAIN you get the point... kasi di uunlad ang pilipinas kung puro extorion lamang dapat confiscate para matakot sila...

    WBR,
Ahhh Sir Innova, hindi ako nanininwala na wala nito sa kahit na developed country sa mas high tech na paraan nga lang. Mas worst pa nga sa other 3rd world country na napuntahan ko.

My point is... not "onli in the Philippines"

sorry guys but i'll have to agree with innova_boy. i have dealt with customs only once and for me, that is one time too many. kahit legal lahat ng papers mo, even if you've paid all the right duties and taxes, hindi ganun kadali dun. kailangan talaga matapang ang sikmura mo.

kaya niyo bang tanggapin ang pagmumura ng isang taga-customs kahit na legal lahat ng papers mo? kaya niyong tanggapin ang pagduru-duruin ka at sigawan ka sa harap ng mga tao nang patanong kung may pinag-aralan ka, kahit na kumpleto at legal ang papers niyo? they can really make it hard for you. keep in mind that the tariff code is always open to interpretation. yung simpleng bagay na ipinasok mo pwede nilang i-overdeclare para sobrang laki ng kailangan mong bayarang taxes. and yet, in spite of that, after you've in fact overpaid, sisigaw-sigawan ka pa. wala kang magagawa kasi pwede nilang hindi i-release ang ipinasok mo.

and lastly, even if you've truly complied with all the necessary duties and taxes, mahahanapan at mahahanapan ka pa din nila ng problema. that's the plain and simple (and sad) fact. halang kaluluwa ng mga alam ko na taga-customs. (caveat: hindi ko nilalahat ng mga taga-customs; yun lang mga alam ko na taga customs ang sinasabi ko dito.)

It's very true doing the business with custom people!

pards, just check out the so-called "gated communities." you're not going to believe the lifestyle of these customs people. talagang parang nagtatapon ng pera. ibang klase. nakakalula ang extravagance nila. talo nila ang tumama sa lotto.

(caveat again: hindi ko nilalahat ang mga nagtatrabaho sa customs. just those customs people whom i know of.)

like they said in one major daily, maayos lang ang bureau of customs, tanggal ang budget deficit natin. surplus pa nga dapat e.

wala na talaga kayo magagawa sa customs, my pseudo-bayaw (gf palamh kasi sis-in-law ko) works in a custom brokerage biz. tuwing pasko, yun boss niya ang sagot sa dalawang litsong baka sa X'mas party nila plus isang case ng fundador. sa boss pa lang nila yun eh pano pa yun ibang biz na nag-dodonate.

the best thing to do, maghanap ng kaklase sa customs at mag-golf kayo paminsan-minsan at regaluhan ang misis niya ng spa GC's hehehe
