i hope this will serve as a warning to all and that no one will experience it.

july 15 saturday 3pm, northbound. before filinvest alabang exit:

Try avoid using the fast lane (near the center median) of the slex regardless of northbound or southbound. Many times we have heard it in the news where buses would lose control and hit those concrete dividers then going over the opposite side straight towards head on oncoming traffic! Just last saturday afternoon, i witnessed, at the point of impact, a scary incident involving a light truck that plowed directly towards a group of construction workers and pinned them .. may god bless their souls rip... for the very first time i saw death before my eyes as it happened. but thank god, those barriers saved us from getting hit as well. what if it was a large truck or bus?

pls relay to your friends, loved ones and relatives..

yes yan ang pansin ko sa SLEX (gagawa na sana ako ng thread) kulang talaga sa mga early warning! lagi pa naman ako out of town, nagtitipid siguro yung contractor pero sana naman pansinin nila to pero as of today ganun parin e, di na masyadong visible mga reflectors nila sa gabi dahil sa dumi, sobrang dangerous magdrive sa gabi para kang nagpatintero sa mga barriers nila,

true! pag gabi, hirap magmaneho dyan. ala ng warning signs, ala pang ilaw! why is it that our supposed expressways lack lighting (except for some parts)? buti pa yata sa mga national roads minsan.

i don't mean the lack of reflectors or early warning signs. Lately, i found out that using this highway during the night is not a problem. already plenty of safety devices installed such as reflectors on EACH barrier. maybe you have tint on your windshield ?

my post concerns the mere use of the overtaking lanes. since only concrete barriers align the median of the highway, vehicles crossing over the side are bound to happen ( i think this happened 4 times already- according to news reports). international standard suggests the use of metal guards (like those on NLEX) to prevent this from happening.

I think the concrete barrier is not the culprit here. IMO it is better than those thin metal barriers at the Magallanes part of SLEX. I always use the fast lane when overtaking. Noticed that those dump trucks and yes, those light trucks mostly converted RHD are the ones that are always involved in these kind of accidents.

The solution is to enforce vehicles to slow down at construction sites. Simple as that. From the minimum speed of 60kph it should lower down to around 30-40kph at least. And this warning should be done well before entering the construction site.

Plus, at least make the detours more controllable to drive on. Some detours I've seen have very bad contact surfaces on the road. Vehicles that aren't maintained as well as they should will easily lose control on those especially when it's slippery.

If people just slowed down in those areas they could have enough time and space around their vehicle to avoid any serious threat, hopefully.

And if I may also add, metal barriers/guard rails work as a permanent solution when no construction is going on. But for logistics purposes, heavy concrete barriers heavily linked by chains and the like, suffice as a temporary barrier. Modular ones are even better, there are large plastic ones that can be filled with sand and have a male and female connector so they can be linked easily.

Even with reflective markers in some areas, it's still very dangerous.

I live in the south, and there's a truck, bus or dump truck (funny enough, many of these dump trucks going off are those working on the contractor's construction sites) going off almost every night.

Simply, the access lanes are too narrow and too bumpy, and the barriers are very hard to see... especially if a car passing from the other direction has knocked one over into the road.

And the transition from four to six lane fast-flowing road to single-lane access roads is very abrupt. No flashing warning signs, no lights, nothing. If you're not from the south and you're sitting behind a big bus, you'll be caught by total surprise as the bus in front of you swerves left and leaves you facing a wall of barriers covering a three foot drop.

It's f***ing scary. I hate driving out there in anything but my car, because the slack steering on most common cars is totally unsuited to maneuvering down these narrow alleyways.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

add to that those stupid people who use their High Beam irresponsibly. Madilim na nga, masisilaw ka pa pag nagkasalubong kayo since only the barriers separate the north and southbound.

El terible talaga itong construction sa SLEX mula pa ng simula. Honestly pansin ko yung reflectors, pero at night it's placed too low for the car's light to hit on it. The concrete barriers are painted yellow but not reflective enough as well.

. .i wonder why hindi napapansin ng dpwh yan. . .sa asar ko minsan hindi ako nakatiis umangal sa toll booth operator, sabi ko, "pakisabi sa manager mo na ipaabot sa itaas na dapat e libre dumaan dito ngayon. . .delikado and very inconvenient gamitin ang highway nyo". . .ngumiti lang yung babae. . .

nakasulat sa wikipedia about dpwh. . ."The Philippines' Department of Public Works and Highways (Filipino: Kagawaran ng Pagawaing Bayan at Lansangan), abbreviated as DPWH, is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for all safety of projects in the field of public works."

    . . .safety ba kamo?
