Almost bought a Pajero with its mileage TAMPERED with

last month we were scouting for a starex millenium body and found ourselves a nice white starex sa buy and sell shop along mindanao ave. bagong kuha palang nila ng unit which was trade in for a certain pick-up, Hilux or Navarra im not sure. but bottomline, we saw the van, unmolested, untouched with its still dirty engine bay and 148tkms mileage. after 3 days we went back and the engine bay so clean, the interior so fresh and the mileage is... yes, just 78tkms.

thing is, this is really rampant (mileage tampering) among buy and sell dealers.

dapat talaga gawing criminal offense yang pagtatamper ng odometer

plus 1 on this. when we bought our mitsu adventure way back 04 on a buy and sell dealer. we got it with only 48tkms on its odo. the seller saying that that was the original miles and we thought it really was as the car doesnt have any kalampags whatsoever and is so fresh...

lo and behold at 56tkms, napatidan kami ng timing belt! which usually happens past 80tkms... it has become our habit na tuloy to change the timing belts immediately on pre owned cars that we buy.

see that little mislead info got us into huge repair bills on broken conrods, bent valves etc.

Digital odometers can be tampered just as easy with the right tools.

swertihan lang talaga yan. pero it's a no-no na bumili sa mga 2nd hand buyers na company mas maayos pa rin talaga bumili don sa direct owners.
yung tita ng wife ko for example sabay kami bumili ng honda civic back in 2003 yung sa akin nabenta ko na at 67K KM reading pero yung sa kanya e ala pang10K ang KM reading e kasi di naman ginagamit dahil retired na sa work at ayaw mag drive sa gabi dahil mahina ang mata. ginagamit lang e pag pinapa drive either sa kin or sa wife ko pag punta sa hospital or sa batangas na 2x a yr na ang max para bumisita sa mga patay na relatives.

sarap gamitin yun feeling mo bagong bago pa lahat pati amoy at takbo and yet 2003 model pa yun at very condition ang sasakyan kasi di nga ginagamit at ang maintenance e ako nagpapasok sa casa kaya alaga talaga.

dapat tignan din natin ang way ng paggamit ng mga owners at magtanong sa mga kapitbahay lalo na kung binabaha ang lugar. ako nagbenta na rin ako ng 3 ko ng sasakyan kasi palit ng bago. pero never ako nanloko ng mga tao at sinasabi ko pa ang mga potential na bumigay o kailangan palitan na sa potential buyer ng vehicle.
