THREE people on board the van of television network ABC5 died in a vehicular accident in Barangay (village) San Isidro, Pamplona, Camarines Sur, a police official confirmed Sunday.

Pamplona Deputy Chief of Police SP04 Bernardo Rosegaron, said a bus collided with the rear of the van.

He said the fatalities have yet to be identified as authorities are still trying to retrieve the bodies from the wrecked van.

The accident happened around 4 pm, radio reports said.

The victims were apparently on their way home after their Mayon Volcano coverage in Albay province, the reports added.

NAGA CITY--(4TH UPDATE) Three crew members of the ABC-5 television network died on the spot after their service vehicle collided with a Raymond Bus at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday at Barangay (village) del Rosario, Pamplona, Camarines Sur, some 400 kilomters from Manila.

Bernardo Rosegaron, Pamplona deputy chief of police, identified the fatalities to INQ7.net as Smile Cabugayan, 38, driver; Analiza "Hazel" Richeta, reporter; and Arnel Guiao, cameraman.

Rescue operations were still ongoing as of 6 p.m., according to the Kabalikat Civicom, a volunteer radio communications group that broke the story to the Inquirer through Ed de Leon, Philippine Information Agency director and Kabalikat founder in Bicol.

The Kabalikat said the bus was on top of the ABC-5 vehicle, making the retrieval operation difficult.

Jun Alegre, a dzRH reporter based in Legazpi City and a friend of the group, said the ABC staff members were on their way home and left Legazpi City after lunch.

"We even had a dinner last night where Hazel introduced to me the group that would relieve them," he said.

He added that he even gave the team pili nut candies and red wine.

tama sagot ni Madzie... pero doon maluwag... 4 lanes

dyan sa pamplona, narrow pero high speed dahil well-paved ang daan.. from what I saw sa MUP, it was a Frontier pickup not a van (sakit na yata yan ng mga reporter di alam alin ang pickup/van/kotse)...

malamang di naka-seatbelt yong tatlo... on initial collision, pag rear-end mapapaliyad, posible mabali ang leeg...2nd collision.. hahampas naman ang ulo sa harap.

    pero ito ang maliwanag:

The Kabalikat said the bus was on top of the ABC-5 vehicle, making the retrieval operation difficult.
