MANILA, Philippines – Seven Filipinos, including 2 women, have been tagged as suspects in a US$1 million jewelry heist from an expo in Istanbul, Turkey.

Authorities were able to identify 6 of the 7 suspects through security camera footage. The suspects were identified as Janice Apostol, Armando Fajardo, Edgardo Ramos, Cesar Galvez, Rosita Panlilio and a certain Herbie Cruz.

It was learned that the suspects had just arrived in Istanbul, and after stealing the jewelry, they immediately fled to Dubai then went back to the Philippines.

The incident reportedly happened during the 32nd Istanbul Jewelry Expo last month.

Today's Zaman online reported on March 21, 2011 that the thieves took the necklace from the Zela Jeweler booth.

The online report said the modus operandi of the group involved distracting the booth’s employee while another provided cover and a third person served as lookout.

It added that the 2 women also distracted the security personnel by frequently entering and exiting through security checkpoints.

The group was able to cart away one diamond emerald necklace estimated to be worth US$1 million.

Because of the incident, Turkish Immigration officials allegedly became stricter to Filipinos entering the country. TV Patrol

And the list of Filipino stupidity continues....

If our Government wants to save face, it should extradite these criminals to Turkey, treaty or no treaty. We're so spineless about such things it embarrasses me.

How much longer will Filipinos continue to bring shame to our country and people? From idiots in the streets, to bums in the ghettos, to imbeciles in government, to perps all over the world.

Ang Pinoy: World class... pati sa krimen.

Manila picks up 3 out of 7 robbers of Istanbul expo

THREE out of seven Filipinos who snatched an emerald-diamond necklace worth $1 million from an Istanbul jewelry exposition last month have been caught in Manila, according to press reports from Turkey.

A statement provided by the Foreign Affairs Department to the Interpol revealed that the four fugitives, who were among the members of a robbery ring that stole the necklace from the Zela Jeweler booth at the expo, were believed to have disappeared without going through passport control at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Turkish media reported. (facepalm everyone!)

The identities of the members of the Filipino gang, who included two women, were determined via security cameras and expo enrollment documentation. The suspects were released when the necklace was not found in their possession. (another facepalm!)

The robbery happened on March 18, when the gang distracted a lone attendant at the booth during the lunch break.

Store representatives notified police of the incident two hours later, when they realized what had happened.
