FIVE suspected car thieves were killed in a shootout with policemen in Quezon City late Wednesday night, an official said.
The gun battle erupted at around 10:30 p.m. along Kamuning road when the suspects, who were driving a stolen taxi (PWM304) refused to be flagged down, said Superintendent Roger James Brillantes, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) intelligence chief.
The QCPD anti-carjacking unit had received a radio report that the said taxi cab was stolen along MIA Road in Pasay City, Brillantes said.
The suspects were first spotted at the intersection of Quezon and Rossevelt Avenues, sparking a brief chase that ended on Kamuning road, Brillantes said.
“They [suspects] fired the first shot,” Brillantes said, adding no policeman was hurt.
Four of the suspects died on the spot while the fifth was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, he said.
“This is the same gang that steals taxicabs for use as getaway vehicles in other crimes,” Brillantes said.
A .38-caliber revolver and a .22-caliber pistol were seized from the suspects, Brillantes said.

June 16th, 2006 05:08 AM #5Oh God, not another one.
He means the same deal where suspected carjackers in a sedan were surrounded by plainclothes police officers in an unmarked Revo and riddled with holes right near Robinsons Galleria. To make matters worse, after having ceased fire, an officer checked on the victims, leaped back, and fired more shots into the occupants of the car. Did I mention that this was ALL captured on video?
There was a huge dispute about why the kids were killed, whether they really were armed, and whether there was just cause for the officer to shoot the suspects again. There was even some purported video evidence of the officers having planted evidence.
Frankly, can you blame people for suspected the worst?

They were driving a stolen car...
They fired the first shot...
In that case, they deserved it.

hehe...eversince the ortigas "shootout" happened kasi, medyo di na kaagad-agad naniniwala ang mga tao. although kung legitimate operation and encounter, good riddance nga.
curious lang is, 5 suspected car thieves with only one .38 and one .22 caliber handguns, patay lahat....siguro niratrat na lang sila basta-basta hanggat may gumagalaw pa sa loob. baka wala na ang linyang: "..sumuko na kayo, napapaligiran na namin kayo..."
kuro-kuro lang po.Last edited by swordsman; June 16th, 2006 at 01:46 PM.

Aside from the ortigas shoot out, how about the incident along c5, wherin police openfired on an unarmed civilian who's toyota vios was mistaken for the toyota altis that they were chasing. The policemen's excuse, "eh pareho kasi ng kulay".
sinabi moh! i hardly see my children now. when they were young, schedules were more predictable.
Traffic!
