MANILA, Philippines -- Three suspected car thieves were killed in a shootout with police in Quezon City early Monday, a television report said.
The shootout happened at around 3 a.m. when members of the Philippine National Police-Traffic Management Group chanced upon the suspects who were on board a Kia Starex van along Katipunan Avenue Extension near White Plains Subdivision, the report said.
When accosted, the suspects fired at the lawmen, prompting the authorities to fire back.
TMG director Chief Superintendent Errol Pan said a trace of the van showed that it was registered in the name of Judy Ang. The vehicle was reported missing only last June 23.
