1 killed, 8 hurt in 10-vehicle pile-up in Taguig City

MANILA, Philippines - A motorcycle driver was reportedly killed while eight others were wounded in an ten-vehicle pile-up (earlier reported as 11) that occurred Friday afternoon in Taguig City.

One truck, three cars, two sport utility-vehicles, and several motorcycles were among those involved in the accident, according to a picture of a text message posted on the Twitter account of Yves Gonzalez, the traffic czar of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The 10-wheeler-truck, driven by Normalito Rumboao, lost its brake and turned upside down and ploughed through the other vehicles at the flyover along C5 Road near Market! Market! on Mabini Avenue corner McKinley Parkway in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

The fatality identified as James Guaterno was riding with his wife when the incident happened.

The road mishap paralyzed traffic in the area, specifically at the northbound side of C5 with tailend at the South Luzon Expressway and chokepoint at Market! Market! At the soundbound lane, traffic congestion reached all the way to Katipunan flyover.

Guaterno's body has been brought to Funeraria Filipina while those injured were brought to the Ospital ng Makati.
