Full size and mid-size American cars became smaller towards the end of the 70's and even smaller during the 80's(specially when they switched to FWD), but American cars have also grown a bit since then...

    prevous gen Taurus

Length Sedan: 197.6 in (5019 mm)
    Width 73.0 in (1854.2 mm)
Height Sedan: 56.1 in (1424.9 mm)

    New Taurus

    Wheelbase 112.7 in (2862.6 mm)
    Length 201.8 in (5125.7 mm)
    Width 74.1 in (1882.1 mm)
    Height 61.2 in (1554.5 mm)

Some grow bigger in all directions... while some grow bigger by getting taller.

sa tinign ko, it's simply "the bigger, the better". parang bahay, mas kita mo ang improvements at pag asenso kung mas malaki. also improvements in technology allows it. we now have lighter yet stronger materials, powerful yet frugal engines, etc. these allow more radical designs without compromising performance and safety. ika nga, kaya naman gawin, so bakit hindi?

at ang hirap atang imarket na "the new corolla is 5% smaller than the model it replaces and 10% smaller than the honda civic!" parang wala ka ring pinagyabang hehe

Another thing is because of the competion, if brand X makes its cars bigger then brand Y will try to better that one para may bragging rights. At isa itong marketing...bigger sells.

puro processed foods kasi kinakain ng tao ngaun kaya mahirap pag di insulated sa loob ng car. try nyo sumakay ngaun sa box type lancer, dami ako kakilala parang napaparanoid. parang sumisigaw mga fats nila ... it's unsafe, we're not safe!

the added paddings, security features, safety features and extended bumpers are just but a car manufacturer's way of calming the nerves of the modern processed-food human. let's face it, may say na ngaun ang body fats sa brains natin.

Yup. Not much bigger in absolute terms, but it's a lot chubbier.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The "big body Corolla" and "Lovelife Corolla" are the same size because the "lovelife Corolla is just a reskin of the "big body Corolla".
Why does it look smaller inside? ...because the seats are bigger.

Bakit naman nila paliliitin yung bago? E pwede din namang i-maintain yung size sa newer model. "Vehicle X retains its compactness while improving this and that..." ;)

Why do new car models have to be bigger than their predecessor?
