baka yung Iswara pa nga ang pinakamatibay na tsikot nila eh... based on the old Mitsubishi Colt. btw, is the quality problems affects even those Wira and other Mitsubishi based Proton cars?

ive rode on my dad's friend Proton Wira some few years back, a Malaysian diplomat car, its even RHD, the quality seems fine naman. Lancer na Lancer.

i think the best among Proton cars is the Perdana series probably because its more expensive. The Iswara, Satria, Wira, Tiara, Saga are the Proton models w/c 'slowly disintegrate' (as my Malaysian friend said) from 3 years onwards. Gen-2s dont sell well because of the crampped interiors, plus the low passenger ceiling at the back.

Perodua cars are more in demand, in fact the MyVi model has a waiting time of 3 months. Proton Savvy cars are readily available on dealer showrooms.

Tsaka according to a Top Gear crash test episode, when a Ford Fiesta was compared vs the Proton Wira in UK, there is a better survival rate in the Fiesta because the Proton had more damage during a collision-test at 40 (or 60mph). The host said with the Fiesta costing a liitle more than the Wira, its better to spend extra pounds for safety.

The earlier Wiras had okay reliability precisely because they used more Japanese components than later Protons. If you get a locally sold LHD Wira here, it's not a bad car, and often a steal at the prices they sell for.

Perodua cars are Daihatsu based. They are nicely designed and I like that Daihatsu Sirion based Perodua.

When they pitted the Wira against the Lancer, para silang bumangga sa pader so to speak. Heyday pa nung Mitsu noon, kumakasa pa sila sa sales vs. Toyota & Honda. Tapos napansin ko nung nilabas ng Mitsu yung Lancer with the pizza tail lights in '96, yun ang knockout punch sa Proton.

then the public noticed it. Of course, the public would rather buy a newer model than an old one. di ba

OT: maganda tvc nung nilabas yung pizza pie lancer. Kasabay ng mari mar heheheh.

Proton designs were Mitsu-based at that time due to the fact that they're the partner, that's explain the similarities. Di nyo ba napansin na walang sedan assembly plant ng mitsu sa Malaysia dahil part of the deal with the ex-PM. Previously all their engines/parts are mitsu but carrying the proton emblem. (All mitsubishi sedan cars running in malaysian roads are CBUs-imported).
The deal earlier this year to turnaround proton's losing skid with VW went up in smoke and Mitsu has again came to the rescue... Akala kasi nila noon ay kaya na nilang patakbuhin mag-isa (kaya di ni-renew yung mitsu tie-up contract), thus resulted na walang new model after the waja except on their gen2 lately.

The problem with Proton is that they make a comfortable earning selling cars locally in Malaysia. Because there is no importation tax, they actually make a large profit margin while being very competitive with foreign car manufacturers. Basically, this cockiness in being able to sell cars based on the price point stifles development of truly competitive cars.

Once they open their eyes truly to the international market, the build quality should improve.

Parang development lang ng Satria / Wira ang Putra... pero I like old cars... what's underneath? Naka 1.8 pa rin? That looks like a nippy little car.
