Bro.,- thanks for sharing.

Always read the fine print on those things. They are not as painless as they make us believe.
Sort of like lifetime warranty on tires or Rapide's lifetime brake warranty.

November 9th, 2006 02:16 PM #4remember. warranties don't cover wear and tear items. also, warranties overlap the manufacturers' warranties. for example, Toyota has a 5-year (or 75,000 mile whichever comes first) bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. if you buy the ESP (extended service plan) for x amount of dollars for 7 years (or 100,000 miles whichever comes first), you are essentially paying for 2 years (or 25,000 miles). a lot of sneaky car salemen do not explain this when they're trying to sell it to you.

May 24th, 2007 10:24 PM #5I got extended warranty for my Tucson, when they gave me the certificate, one of the fine prints is that I have to insure my car with the insurance company through the dealer I got it from henceforth!!!.
I said "no way". When you buy a car with the usual 3 years manufacturer's warranty, the dealership has to honor it irregardless on where i insure my car, now that I am enrolling on their extended warranty program, they force me to give up my right to choose my insurance even on the years that the extended warranty is not yet in effect. Incredible. Now, they're be free to jack up their premiums and if I refuse and transfer insurance, there goes my premium for the extended warranty even if it hasn't started yet.
I wrote them a letter cancelling the extension. The certificate says I have 7 days to cancel. It's still in process though, for a refund.
Should the Insurance Commission look into these.

Our old 97 Dodge Grand Caravan SE minivan had an extended warranty. Good thing too because on a trip to Nevada, I unknowingly drove through a piece of shredded tire from an 18-wheeler. It hit the gas tank and caused a hairline fracture. The extended warranty covered it. Then, a couple thousand miles before the extended warranty expired, the A/T started giving me problems. A replacement would've cost me $3k. The extended warranty also covered it. But, I had enough of the van. I traded it in for the 06 Sonata which has a non-standard 10-year bumper to bumper warranty.
