2001 VW 1.8T
nasira yung turbo ko last week, I noticed a drop in boost then after I was not getting any boost, zero and I hear a grinding noise, sabi ko **** sira yung turbo. I went home then started to take apart my turbo after cooling her down.
here is the picture of the busted turbo
the shaft turbine would would move in and out with some bent fins and there was a oil in the turbo inlet pipe, - busted seals.
the stock turbo eh ko3 sports
eto yung pinalit ko ko4_01 240hp/260ft/lbs , took me 6 hours to un-install/install
driving impression
1st test drive with the stock n75 boost valve, I was spiking 21 psi, 13psi to redline (I'm getting 17psi boost spike with the stock n75 boost valve and stock turbo)
2nd test drive with the n75 J boost valve(race valve) spiking up to 24 psi, boost spoolup starts early at 2000rpm, peak power around 4000-6000rpm, gobs of torque

well the stock ko3sports on the 2001 model is rated 150hp/150ft/lbs torque, when I chipped the car it raised the boost from 8psi to 1 bar(14psi) with spikes to 20 psi, plus the 3" dp & n75 boost valve raised the boost so basically the turbo is maxed out or is running beyond it's efficiency range I calculate it getting 192-200hp. The 2002 to present models boost have been raised to 10-11 psi which bumps them to 180hp. With mild software upgrade I could easily get 240hp/260 ft/lbs torque.
turbo timer is my next upgrade although I now let it cool down for 2-3 minutes. A stock 1.8T with ko3sports runs mid 14secs, meron ibang naka ko3sports with boltons running 13.5 secs, I was planning on taking her to the tracks this friday kase merong club clash pero nag-iisnow dito ngayon.
here is a sample dyno plot ko3 vs ko4, look at the torque. this is whp
