DeltaBravo::: It's fine to switch to a lower octane and test the result. You can fill it up half tank, to test pag di umubra, full tank ng Vortex Gold.
Mardim::: Yeah, it's difficult to choose which stations to fill up, ingat lang pag binabaha yung area ng gas station or kahit yung kanto nila. Malamang nahahaluan ng tubig kahit papano. :D

kahit ba naka idle lang ang engine na may tope eh madidistinguish na ba? or kailan tumatakbo or naka high rpm?
thanks
Ungas, is right that incorrect octane ratings may cause tope, but IMHO fuel quality can also be a factor.
AFAIK, poor ignition system, which includes your spark plug, can also cause tope. Why, becausel tope (or detonation/pinging) is simple poor combustion.
As for the "tik" sound, my best guess is the valve, might need adjustment.
Paki korek na lang po kung mali.

thanks ungas, may dagdag pa ako...
automatic ung sasakyan. from idle, lagay ko sa drive, then accelerate hard (up to 3000-3500rpm). while the car is still gaining speed *3000rpm may naririnig akong sound like "tik tik tik". once na umabot na sa 60-70kph ang takbo nawawala na ung tunog.
This is exactly what I experienced! My car is a corolla 93 Gli (requires at least 95 RON- which I didn't know before), let me share the fuel I have tried, RON and the results:
Shell unleaded (93) - I was like you, I'm used to filling up with this fuel pero tope.
Shell premium (93) - tope
Caltex Silver (93) - tope
Caltex Gold (95) - tope
Petron unleaded (93+) - tope from one station but very seldom na ang tope when I tried another station
Petron XCS (95) - kafu full tank ko lang(of course from may favorite petron station) the night before last night so hindi pa ko masyado sigurado, pero parang mas konti ang tope.
I would also like to add, gas stations are supposed to buy from their main plant or something but there are unscrupulous gas stations that buy cheaper fuel from other sources, they call this "pa-ihi", mas mura ang gas, pero mas low quality.
I don't want to post my favorite gas station baka bawal, parang marketing ang dating, if you want I can PM you.
good luck!

January 23rd, 2004 01:15 AM #14To Delta bravo.

January 23rd, 2004 11:39 AM #15if changing fuel and octane ratings doesn't help reduce the tope then bring it to a shop to have the timing checked. advanced or wront timing can cause tope to occur in an engine. if medyo luma na yung car you may also want to think about having the tappets adjusted

finally found the solution!!!
from vortex gold (RON95), i downgrade my fuel to shell's super premium (RON93). Medyo mas malakas ang pinging sa RON93.
Last night, i decided to try Petron's Blaze (RON96) . One last try before i contact my mechanic. Pakarga ako ng fulltank (fuel tank is near empty na).
From Petron (Macapagal Blvd) to Uniwide Coastal, alalay lang ang takbo. kako ubusin ko muna ung natitirang gasolina na nasa fuel line.
This morning i tried it again at wala na ung pinging/tope.
I think higher octane rating solved my car's problem. Only drawback is mahal ang Blaze.
Paano ba adjust barbula?
Last night,

Di na siguro kailangan adjust valve gaps, adjusting the timing will be sufficient enough.
