Do you "shake" your car when you get a full tank? Please explain why.
Tnx!

nope, the vibrations caused by driving your car normally will let the fuel level out as well as make your gauge gradually increase after a few seconds.
another automotive myth...
Myth 4: Shake car to maximise fuel capacity
YOU may have seen people rocking their cars from side to side while pumping petrol, especially where prices are discounted.
The idea is to shake out all the air bubbles to maximise the amount of cheap petrol they pump. They also continue filling even after the pump automatically cuts off, squeezing in every last drop they can.
Don't expect to save much this way.
'These air gaps, if any, are not large,' said the AA spokesman.
'The savings, if any, is negligible.'
In fact, trying to fill the tank right to the brim may be dangerous.
'They should avoid filling it right to the top because the petrol can spill out, posing a safety hazard,' said Kah Motor's Mr Ng.
nakakadagdag din ako ng almost 1 liter after auto cut-off ng pump by shaking. almost negligible nga compared to the tank capacity of 92 liters.
nasabi na lahat ng post ni mazdamazda pero ginagawa ko ito noon to get the bubbles out of the tank para mas accurate ang pagkuha/pagcompute ko ng fuel economy ng sasakyan ko...for fuel economy computation purposes lang...pag puno na kasi di na kaya ng "breather" kaya kapag kinalog mo masisiksik mo pa ito dahil madidisplace yung hangin na natitira pa sa fuel tank...pinupuno ko ng gasolina hanggang labi ng butas...tulad ng post ni mazdamazda, huwag nyong gagawin ito(pagsasagad hanggang labi) dahil delikado ...
Dont you create more air pockets by shaking the car? Its basic physics that the more disturbance you create on a water surface the more air pockets will develop.
If shaking has ANY logic to it, I'd think that race cars or high end cars will have a built-in tank shaker whenever a car is refueled. Doesn't make any sense.
so this is a useless exercise pala, have to remember to not fill the tank to the brim next time
based on my experience as gasoline boy...bababa pa talaga level ng fuel sa butas kapag kinalog mo dahil lalabas pa yung hangin na "naipit" somewhere sa uneven top/upper portion ng fuel tank...fuel tank na di even ang space/shape ng top portion...
guys magkarga or mag obserba kayo paminsan minsan kapag magrerefuel para malaman nyo kung totoo o hinde...

Shaking the car may make you fill the car to the BRIM... so in that sense, it does work. But the bigger question is, WHY? So you can add maybe two more liters?
In any case, filling the car to the brim is NOT good -- baka may matapon pa. When you accelerate, baka may matapon.
Finally, AYOKO MAG MUKHANG TSUPER NG JEEPNEY... or Taxi... heheh...
may naiipit ba na hangin? dba liquids "find their way" through any container, and d rin naman malapot ang gasolina. bka naaayos lng yng floater pgka-shake.
To answer the initial question.... NO.
But i agree with most of the guys here.... the more pertinent question should be why?![]()
filling up my car upto the brim of its tank gave me an extra 50 kilometers of travel, now that's kind of convenient because it's a hassle for me going back and forth to gas stations, i really like to maximize my cars tank, but now i'l remember not to give my car a full tank up to the brim...![]()
Yebo...hahaha. Kala ko may scientific explanation ka nanaman.
The reason I asked is, like most of us, I doubt whether it helps... I mean, elementary school science taught us that liquids follow the shape of the container, and is always level.
Chieffy does has a point though. I have not opened my car's fuel tank and don't know its shape (well except for the Beetle's which is just under the hood and is easily recognizable as just a regular box). Definitely, a certain shape might cause air to be trapped if filled with liquid from the top. And for mileage computation, it's a good idea. Not for regular practice though.
Besides I do not fill my tank to full capacity. Mahal na ngayon ang magpa-full tank. Hehe.
