Look at Nissan. they used to be in bigger debt and trouble in the 80's-90's than mitsubishi was yet look at them now. Nissan's turnaround happened when they were bought by renault. and had Gozy (forgot his name) was installed as the CEO. Just look at how Nissan is performing all around the world right now. Cars like the 350Z, nissan murano, X-trail has been having brisk sales. hopefully something like this will happen to mitsubishi.

BTW the lancer evo has mostly active safety which means its almost inversely proportional to passive safety.

It was a smart move by volvo when they sold their share to DCX in 1999. DCX paid $10million more in 2000 than what volvo cost them to buy the 3% share in Mitsu.

Maybe Hyundai can save them?! Afterall, the marketing guru in Mitsu right now used to work for Hyundai. Notice the 10 year warranty being offered by Mitsu now? Sounds like a Hyundai strategy...haha

30% ng total car sales nila last year were to rental and company fleets which don't generate as much income as retail sales and damage residual values and image (I read somewhere na 60% naman ng domestic sales sa rental at company fleets den).

Pero yung lalabas ng Evo X next year mukhang kapana-panabik, hehehe.

Nissan's savior whas Ghosn... Carlos Ghosn. And his bailout of Nissan and his complete demolition of a multi-billion dollar deficit was nothing short of amazing.

Mitsu really needs someone like that right now. Their quality, and more importantly, their perceived quality, is going down the toilet. The turbo manifold failures, the recalls, the fact that some magazines are complaining about EVO FQ engine failures... this points to something fundamentally wrong, especially considering that this is a Japanese company noted for quality and endurance.

I look at their product releases, designs, and sales schemes, and I don't see anything bright for them in the immediate future... The Montero release? What a laugh... almost any consumer could tell you how old the platform is... the Outlander just can't compete with the CR-V and RAV4... never mind the X-Trail (which is currently re-defining the CUV segment)... the Lancer is getting older and older, and recent releases such as the 1.8 MX and the 1.8 Turbo (in other Asian markets) don't even match up well to the current market leaders.

The Grandis is admittedly a bright spot, but it's a Previa contender that's come to the market just a little late... time will tell if it can give the Toyota a run for its money. Now if only Honda would join that particular fight...

And what about the 3.8 liter Galant? Since when have you seen a NON-AMERICAN maker resort to such large displacement to get 200+ hp... in a CAR. Doesn't speak well for Mitsubishi's state of technical prowess.

(a little aside on the grandis)

the grandis is certainly a looker, but does anyone else think it should have had sliding doors at the rear as a true minivan should? i think families would appreciate the huge portals of the previa and other competitors more... which may translate to the grandis becoming somewhat of a flop in sales volume

    They're getting there, though.

Wala lang talaga akong problema sa Adventure ko, but Mitsubishi seriously has to shape up if it hopes to regain some of its lost glory.

haayy...tama, it's a sorry state that mitsu is in right now...drove a mitsu before, an '89 galant SS, and i believe most will agree that until now, a well maintained/restored one still turns heads and gets the nod of car enthusiasts, lalo na yung GTi series nung ganitong model.

    if i may reminisce awhile:

i was a teen of the early/mid nineties, and at that time mitsu cars were alternating the 1-2 spot with toyota. honda was relatively young at that time, and nissan was still trying to squeeze the last drops of lemonade from its cars...

the mid-sized car to beat was the galant VR: six cylinders and 163 horses. the lancer itlog was a very welcome change over the singkit (well, the non-GTi for this matter), and when the strada was released, it gave the pathfinder and hilux a run for its money...isuzu was basically a non-player. the king of people haulers prior to the FX era was of course, the L300 VersaVan. no expeditions or cr-vs, top SUV was the paj.

it really saddens me that a company known to have produced good cars when i was young is in doldrums nowadays (cause it just shows how old WE are, hehe). if there is any consolation, i believe toyota was in a somewhat similar situation in the mid-eighties. i just hope mitsu finds a killer vehicle to revive the company just as toyota did with the AE92 corolla.

Well, Mitsu has the Colt, which by all accounts, is going to be its killer app, unfortunately, they don't have a line-up to build around it yet... and Mitsu, like Nissan, is very very VERY conservative in bringing models into this market, so even if they do recover, we're not likely to see the effects here for a long time.

According to surveys they are. I think locally Koreans just have a bad rap. I think the Evo FQ (UK only) has problems because of the aftermarket upgrades it received. Stock shouldnt have problems afaik.

So long as the LanEvo and Pajero Evo continue to hell with everything else.
