based on experience, yes. mas ok bumili sa dealers.... the worst thing they can do lang is to tamper your odo. pero kung titignan mo, ganun pa din, you will never know the condition of your engine's innards until it explodes in your face. unless during vehicle inspection, bubuksan mo talaga makina.

I was about to ask this - kung okay ba bumili sa 2nd hand dealers or directly sa owners. Tapos kahit papaano siguro me konting warranty rin. Agree ba kayo or hindi?

Anyway, expect things to repair talaga pag 2nd hand cars. Kaya nga dapat din talaga i consider ng isang taong nagbabalak bumili ng car ke brand new o 2nd hand ang financial capability nya for keeping it.

    Got it at 95,000 km.

    Problems:
    1. Busted AT - replaced by seller (part of our agreement), I just contributed ATF. I'll be sending it back for a backjob because the shifter is stiff when shifting from M to D but otherwise it works well now.

    2. Repaired/replaced suspension bits (shocks, mounts, tie rod) - not yet necessary but I'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway.

    3. Changed oil and fuel filter, spark plugs

    4. Upgraded to HID retrofit because stock headlights had weak output

    5. Repaired bumper clips (broken again; lesson learned - never trust Banawe freelancers)

    6. Aircon cleaning (didn't solve the minor whining problem which is probably a sign of an old blower)

Is it a stressful experience? A bit. We've spent quite a lot in fixing the car, and you really have to allot some time to it (I've spent most of my weekends for the past month).

But it's worth it. For a little over 300k including repairs, I have a fully functional TOTL sedan that actually has more toys than my brand new Altis (rain-sensing wipers, automatic HID headlamps, moon roof). Runs very well too, no problem hitting 180 on the highway. Haven't pushed it to its top speed but I'm expecting 190-195 perhaps.

You learn a lot about cars too. I admit it's not for everyone - those who know nothing about cars and have no interest will probably just pay exorbitant amounts for a brand new car because they don't wanna be bothered with repairs.

Nakakalumpo naman mga experience nyo! Haha i would consider myself lucky pala.

    07 Altis 1.6G AT - 100k (acquired 2013)
    Bargain deal.

Ondoy victim, pero owned by my father. New ecu, all liquids pinalitan, still drives like a dream. He wanted a ford ranger and was going to trade it in for 250k (2013). That time for the same model kaya pa pumalo ng 350 to 400k so biniro ko si erpats kunin ko 100k kesa naman malugi ka at least our family gets to keep the car. Pumayag!
All in all compared sa inyo hindi to sakit ng ulo:

2nd day of driving (gf driving) bumanga sa pader - 3k fender bender + sabog ung gulong 800 petot na 2nd hand

Spiral cable for busina 4k ko nabili sa banawe kasi ung nabili ko sa kasa na 1k hindi compatible dahil pang ibang year nabigay saken. Found out pwede lang pala ako bumili ng clip adaptor barya lang sana ginastos ko.

    Evaporator bumigay, 10k

    After 2 months

    Compressor bumigay, 10k

Driver side power window, 1k pero band aid fix laging nasisira. Had to rewire the driver side window to the passenger side power window button 250 lang sa technician.

All in all having a car made me more responsible financially. For some reason ms may financial freedom ako ngayon than when I was commuting. It goes down to planning i guess. Always have an emergency fund. Hope i was able to contribute.

i bought a 2001 pajero fieldmaster in the later part of 2014. i got it at 470k (it's the reason i joined tsikot because of the fm thread). since then i already replaced all the suspension parts except the adjustable shocks. i replaced also the starter, compressor, radiator, tires and rims, battery, alternator, stereo (with subwoofer), leather seats. installed fog lamps (and upgraded the headlamps), turbo timer, volt meter, dash cam, backing up sensor. i'll install a tpms soon. retrofitted it with a bumper overrider. i haven't tinkered with injection pump or the engine because it has yet to give me a headache (sooner or later it will). it actually costs me a little fortune, but i don't have regrets. it stresses me out though if i hear noise or vibration that's out of the ordinary.

    1997 Mazda 323 Gen 2.5
    Acquired last May 2015
    Acquisition cost 60k
    Odo reading * 197k

Neglected car, owner has a lot of cars kaya binenta(di na nagagamit), Orig CR is missing(photocopy lang ang cr), CR is under the name of the owner's company(lahat ng kotse nya naka pangalan sa kompanya nya).

known issues were kalampag and white smoke and lost orig cr.

    1) 1st day, change oil sa shell - 1.8k
    2) On the same day, replaced engine support, front bushings and ball joints - 4.5k
    3) A week later, we decided to do a top overhaul to solve the white smoke(mechanic suggested to do a general overhaul since engine is already old and nearing the end of it's life. - 25k - 30k total cost
    4) replaced CV boots - can't remember since naisabay sa overhaul yung labor at pinambili.
    5) a week after successful overhaul, bumibitaw ang clutch kahit nakadiin - repair kit + labor less than 500 yata
    6) Car registration has expired last June, due to budget constraints July ko na na-rehistro - 5.1k including penalty
    7) 2mos after the successful overhaul, AC died, culprit is leaking ac lines. - 2.7k
    8) last october lumusot ulit ang clutch, shell mechanic advised to replace the primary clutch assy(not sure kung yun nga yun) cost aroung 1.7k kasama brake fluid
    9) did another oil change last month - 1k
    10) 4yrs old battery died - 2.7k

Total Repair cost more or less 50k

    Stress Level 5/10

Next project ko for my car:

CV Joint - tok sound when doing a full-turn on the steering wheel

Nakakatulong yan promise. :D

^^me tanong lang ako boss. Doesn't it bother you ho ba na malapit nyo na ma exceed sa cost of repairs ung actual value ng kotse as a whole? Mejo stressful and money pit talaga.

No, it doesn't. Bago pa ako bumili, I already expected this kind of repairs kasi nga nasa second hand market ako, at yung budget ko ay hindi kataasan.

    2. Replace Wheel Bearing sa likod

    3. Naka schedule siya next Year For change Color at i fix na yung Roof niya

    Upgrade
    - install Led bar and Roof Rack
    - change to retrofit and Angel Eyes Headlight
    - upgrade Smoked Led Tail lights
    - upgrade mags to 2015 oem Fortuner Rims
    - upgraded Head unit with Gps
    - install car show type sounds set up, 10 pieces of Cadence Neo Raw Driver.
