    ano nga ba?

    how far should the steering wheel be? i've seen drivers na talagang extended yung mga arms nila tapos halos nakahiga na sa front seat, he he he. rally drivers on the otherhand seem to be seated much closer to the steering wheel.

    ako..gusto ko relaxed position..slightly reclined seat and extended slightly bent arm kapag relaxed city driving..ewan ko ba pero sanay ako na my right hand is always nasa handbreak or nasa gear stick..pag nasa 80+kph..dalawang kamay na..pero just the same..lagi akong onguard.

    IMHO - personal preference. i.e. whatever position you're comfortable with which gives you the best and safest control of the task at hand, which is driving -- e.g. can you reach the pedals, can you steer comfortably, can you see ahead, etc. etc.

    like ko talaga gangster driving but lahat ng oto dito eh hindi naka 12 o clock position ang manibela puro naka slant,, ganda sana idrive ng mga expedition heheehe ayaw ko din ng masyadong kuba sa pag ddrive at malapit sa manibela

    pero proper is dapat 90 deg ung seat, mataas ang setting para kita mo ng harap mo, 3 - 9 o'clock position ng hands, thunbs not protruding the insides of the steering wheel(safety purposes), elbow are slightly bent. kaya nga rally drivers drive like that because thats the proper. ung mga nakarecline, halos nakahiga na -- mga "ricers" mga yun...for show, papogi....

    most 4x4 clinics teach the correct driving position..kaya nga most "defender" owners kung mapapansin mo ang driver, ktang kita mo, tuwid na tuwid ang upo, parang mayabang..pero ganun dapat nga.

    Thankfully, the steering wheels on most modern cars can be moved either up or down and is sometimes telescopic and can be moved towards or away from the driver as required. Couple that with the ability to adjust the height, back-rest angle and the distance of the driver's seat, you have almost infinite geometric possibilities.

    But here's a guide for in looking for that sweet spot:

    First, you'd basically want to position the steering wheel where it does not impede your line of sight to the road ahead and the car's instrumentation or gauges. You can either adjust the steering wheel up or down, or adjust the seat height.

    2nd; The steering wheel should be at least 12-inches away from you, especially if your car is equipped with a SRS airbag. Even without SRS, some clearance between you and the wheel is required since seatbelts may slacken a few inches before it engages in the event of a frontal collision. This, I think is the industry's de facto standard. Any nearer and serious injury is very likely to happen. If the steering wheel is telescopic, adjust accordingly. If not, slide the seat towards or away from the steering wheel.

    3rd; The farthest you can be is when you stretch your hands forward, your wrist joint (just about where your watch would be) should rest on the top-most part (12 o'clock position) of the steering wheel. This will allow you more leverage when you need to make emergency evasive steering. Adjust the seat distance, back-rest or your telescopic steering to attain the best results.

    Seating should not be upright or 90-degrees. You'd want it slightly laid back about 10-20-degrees or whereabouts (not too much). The idea is that, in case of a collision, inertia would force some of your body mass into the seat (buttocks), not much towards the front and to the steering wheel.

    Don't forget about the pedals. Too far away and you'll have trouble stepping on the clutch at best, or the inability to apply maximum brake pressure at worst.

    my own style ... steering wheel arms lenght postition, seat a lil bit reclined (not too much though) seat pulled all the way back for comfortable leg room ....

    my position is that the back is that that straight, tapos yung elbows at around 45 degrees while holding the steering wheel. yun ang pinaka comfortable sa akin.

    The proper position is thus:

    Sit as high as you can while giving yourself adequate clearance from the ceiling, so you can see more of the road ahead. Give yourself enough recline that you are comfortable and don't have to stoop.

    Your palms should be able to touch the top of the steering wheel with a slight bend left in your elbows. If your arms are fully stretched when you touch the top of the wheel, then you're too far away. Leave enough clearance between the steering wheel and yourself, though, that you can twirl it around with no difficulty. If you're sitting too close to the wheel, maneuvering will be difficult.

    You should be able to floor the brake pedal with a slight bend still left in your leg and your buttocks still in the same position. If you have to move your body to floor the brakes, you're too far away.

    Those are the only things that really matter. The rest is up to you. ;)
